My father served in Viet Nam in the Air Force. He came home an alcoholic and told me to not join the military.

Amen, brother. Many of these "I served" peeps are nothing more than jackbooted thugs with U.S. emblems instead of Soviet or Nazi. There are always fools who yell over and over, "I served," and my dad who's dead won the second highest medal to the Medal of Honor on Peleliu and I never heard him rely on proving his point by saying, "I served." He was no jackboot and he was a real hero. One of the last.

Ally_Kat, you have done nothing compared to what my father had done yet you always think the words "I served" seems to make your point correct fakking hands down just for utter those words. That's a mistake.
