The thing is if Ted didn't want to go to war fine. Many people didn't. The kids who's parents had money and political connections kept them out of it ala George W. Bush. Some got deferments by staying in college or serving religious missions.
Hindsight being 20/20 Vietnam looks to be a huge waste of money, resources and lives. But don't act like the military is you blood brother and start whooping like some crazy war hawk. That's just bullshit. If you want to entertain the troops and they want you fine. It's all Wally World fake cheese bullshit to me.
I don't know the Republicans went off the hook during the Clinton Administration. Before even during the HW Bush term once a president got elected they said they were the people's president. Bush Sr., Reagan, and Ford wouldn't give a jabbering jackass like Nugent the time of day and neither would the media.
I think in the 90's is when the news media started to morph into propaganda. It's when Rush Limbaugh got going. Bill Clinton made Rush Limbaugh famouse. Also that whole Star Report and all that was a joke. JFK was doing the same thing and the press and anyone who knew swept it under the rug. You had the party of family christian values talking like Larry Flint and writing stuff that sounded like Penthouse Forum. It was nuts.
They were after Clinton while he was basically doing what the Republican establishment does. Outsourcing jobs, creating trade unions the average american does not benefit from and deregulating the banks. Clinton should have been a huge hero to the Republicans. At least he wasn't trolling for gay sex in a public restroom.
I would say it was the 90's when the government really started to get polarized and disfunctional.
