Excellent Wiki research you did there, Nick.

    Keep up the good work

That's right. Someone intent on breaking my state's law can certainly do so. The only way to prevent that from happening is to go door to door confiscating everyone's firearms. That way nobody could possibly illegally sell or give away a gun.

The problem is that both sides are ruled by the extremists and you can't even have a conversation about the issue without the "left" calling for draconian gun laws (as in D.C.) and the "right" howling that any reasonable restrictions are infringements upon one's right to bear arms. I know, who defines "reasonable"? Well, I just did earlier...

In addition to a ballistics database, why not an RFID chip in every gun to track it's history in the event it is lost, stolen, or used in the commission of a crime. Not saying punish victims of theft (before one of the gun-nuts goes nightmare scenario), but if your gun gets stolen and you don't report it immediately that should raise suspicion...

Funny, I'm considered a "lefty" here, and neither I nor anyone I've seen here is calling or has called for a complete gun ban (haven't seen it proposed anywhere else, either). The extremism is coming way more from the "Moar guns" right.

I was talking about our "representatives" and the "special interest groups" in Washington. Not us. Hell, if we went to Washington we could probably come up with some good solutions in a week. And that's including time devoted to strip clubs and drinking

A compulsory chip that only let the owner(s) fire the gun could save over 200 children's lives a year in the US who die in accidents playing with them.

That was used to hilarious effect in "Skyfall", btw. I agree, but playing devil's advocate here - wouldn't someone complain that their entire family should have the ability to fire the gun, should they be incapacitated and need "protectin'"?

Like hypothetically, when the brown horde of thugs he fantasizes about eventually raids ELBOW's trailer park - and they immediately subdue him - his "wife" will pick up one of his guns (instead of her own in the heat of the moment, y'know, imagining they're a family of gun-nuts) and won't be able to "protect him frum da tryranny of gubermint".... see?

Not trying to argue here, but do I live in the only part of the country that actually has home invasions (we used to call them break-ins) ? Actual honest-to-god armed criminals kicking down doors in the middle of the night? It's never happened to me but it's not all that rare in the greater metro area.

But if you are a convicted criminal you have been proven to be guilty.

But I agree when the NRA says 'law abiding' it actually means 'all no matter whether they are killers or mental cases'.

Amazing how hyporcritical conservatives are about this... the same papers-please folks that want drug testing for public assistance for poor people to EAT balk at background checks for people wanting to own the means to potentially kill people.
