Eddie. Slash is more famous for his hat than anything else!

eddie was 22 when he recorded "Van Halen". 22!!! i'm most floored by "i'm the one's" solos and "ice cream man's". i mean the guy had quite the stretch-the beginning of the ice cream solo is insane...and it's all blues. ed had a way of throwing some AMAZING melodies into stock blues riffs with speed and dexterity. the solo at 2:32 in "i'm the one?" WHAT? sorry, but he had flow and fire in abundance. and he did not plateau...top jimmy, girl gone bad are nuts. even more melodic. one of my fav licks is the groove in house of pain that dave mimics after the solo, and then the synchopated ending whammy riff with al's fills. he KILLS during fadeouts (drop dead legs), making you punch your head hoping it'll fade back in. B E S T B A R U S E R E V E R ! ! ! . albums after with in n out burger flipper are spotty, but pleasure dome and the dream is over solos are mature and still barnburners. i don't like the fact that now his solos have a lot of wah and sustainer in them. sorry, but slash who? ed is the king, and doing what he did with a smile of genuine happiness makes me feel great.

*like it or not the solo on summer nights on the LWAN video is superb, as is the 5150 solo.*

now i'm all riled up. no, not all fired up...whaddiya think i am, a SPAMSY?

Van Halen and Guns N' Roses are my two favorite bands. However, Guns N' Roses play rock ballads, hard rockers, and bluesy toons. Where ass Van Halen pretty much uses the same formula, except when incorporating synthesizers. In the end it is just a preference thing.

Slash played his Ass off on Illusion I & II. Very cool riffs, and a variety of styles. His bluesy lead style is very emotive and he has a lot of soul.

EVH, is his prime, was also extremely creative. Little Guitars, Women in Love, Could this be Magic?, Mean Streets, Outta Love, cathedral, Spanish Fly, Eruption, Simple Rhyme.......the man was truly inspired. A myriad of styles contained in the 6-pack. And he continued to be inspired over 6 recordings.

Unfortunately, van hagar has caused many people to forget this wealth of musical genius. He became a "pop" guitarist. He surrendered his crown as top Guitar slinger. A shame really.

                  thanks!

it's funny...i took a BIG break from VH, but i fucking love them like i love no other band! and the cool thing is everyone here (almost) love dave...but we all want him back in VH, because we all feel that CVH is the most ripping band ever. during my "break" i loved (and still do) steely dan, beatles, jeff buckley, beck, talking heads, jim croce...all different shit, yet CVH still gets me riled up like no other. after hearing some "deeper" non rocking stuff i went back to CVH...and it's got soul, fire, energy and actual passion that bands/songwriters of more "deep feeling" have. plus being in a band made me hear all the little parts that i missed as a 13-16 year old. so amen to CVH, and i'm with you all waiting for any good CVH news: a dvd, a reunion, NEW MATERIAL...

what amazed me is that even for 'F.U.C.K' i think exactly the same thing : my 2 favorite solos are 'pleasure dome' and 'the dream is over'... it seems likewe have kind of same perception of ed's playing , same sensations...well, i took a break from VH too , but to listen to some instrumental music coz to me most of the rock singers sound weak and boring compared to DLR !!!!!!!!!!! we are all waiting for the big event : a CVH reunion...it's definitively DAVE OR THE GRAVE

I don't want people to think I think Slash is the best ever. Because I am a huge fucking fan of "Willie Nelsons" and the solo's that dude can rip out. I'm in it more for the emotion.

This is based on what comparison? Willie was on the fuckin road again!Makin music with his friends (wasn't gettin any pussy at home) and he couldn't wait to get back on the fuckin road again.
There are those that do and those that don't. Those that didn't see what those that did had done and wish they had especially when "She looked so F#*kin GOOD"

I prefer classic Eddie, but I really like Slash too. He was the person I was hoping Dave would hook up with.

You have to go with EVH, for the plain and simple reason he could do things by himself Slash and Izzy couldn't do together.
