I meant how did you like the Van Hagar show you saw in 1991?

the show in 91 was pretty good. i know i am gonna get ripped for saying that but its true. they were still really awesome at that point. i was disappointed mostly with the fact that eddie used his new (at the time) guitars. i think he was using ernie ball guitars made especially for him. but he did get out several of his old axes too, so that was cool.
they did a lot of stuff off FUCK (of course) and did stuff from OU812 and 5150 and also a few old classics.
the show was good but couldnt hold a candle to the original.

Yeah I was exposed to Van Hagar before Van HALEN and I used to think a few years ago that Van Hagar was good and that it could actually match up to the real Van HALEN...and then I saw the light. When I realized what Van HALEN was all about and how Van Hagar pretty much flew in the face of it, it actually sickened me. Nowadays I like to pretend that April 1, 1985-present never existed.

Remember, Dave only suggested the name, its not his, therefore it would never change no matter who sings. Which preferably in a perfect world would be Sam. Don't get me wrong, Dave is a great performer, and showman; but come on... When it comes to singing he don't come close to the Red Rocker. I grew up a Sammy Fan before I ever even knew who Van Halen was. I loved it, but it didn't matter. I insisted on listening to VH for the first time starting only with the 1st album and going through them in order. I noticed flaws in both eras. With Dave they were a balls to the wall party band. And with Sammy it was all about the music.

Let me point out that they had a lot more hits with Sammy.
So in my mind, I don't hate DLR, Im a VH Fan no-matter who sings (as long as its not Cherone) But I do have a special liking for Sammy. And its a great thing that they are doing.

            Rock on, and Peace out.
            Another titty sucker like L.S.D.
Has no fuckin clue what he missed from 78-84.
            Poor sap.
How much did the" fat fat water rat"(spammy haggis) pay you to post here punk?
            Now scram.

VHLifer, that must have been some Van Halen show in 1985, considering the band's last show with Dave was September 2, 1984.

Those were great posts by Von and Zahzoo, but I gotta throw a little different perspective on it. Being in a smaller state and a few years younger than Zahzoo :p , Van Halen was probably a bigger deal in my circles as a high school teenager. And a lot of it had to do with Dave's entertainment value as much as the music. That's what made them stand out. When you got the rare pre-MTV video clip or the always classic radio interview, Dave stood out on top of everyone out there. And the rest of them would just play along perfectly with the jokes. They all came across like they were having the times of their lives and just being so damn cool about it. The four of them touched my crowd in a way that can never be repeated at this point in my life because they were the soundtrack to my coming of age and can always take me back to that feeling.
