I think POJ' is right.

Part of the reason it hasn't happened yet is because Eddie and Co. seem to want to keep Dave at bay.

But Dave is Dave, and whatever publicity he generated in the original days, it obviously worked.
No one sells 35 million plus copies in seven years purely based on the music alone.

People, whether they liked it or not, WANTED to hear Dave talk --- not Edward, they just wanted to hear him PLAY.

I think maybe the bros. didn't want to publicize the Van Hagar tour too much because, well, really everyone knew it was a 'second' choice and a 'if all else fails with Dave' choice.

And it certainly was not the PEOPLE's choice.

EVERYONE wants to see the original back yard party band get back together.

And that's not what happened last year.

And that's the thing which was so shitty about 1996.

Dave was obviously used to generate interest for Best of Vol.1. How many hits albums sell 3 million copies??? Not many.

And then there was the MTV thing. The thing that struck me immediately was that Dave was being Dave --- DIAMOND DAVE turned on when all those people stood up for CVH! And Eddie hated it, he wanted Dave to become his puppet and Roth did what he always did in CVH --- bring the fans up on their feet.

Eddie and his sister have to shut up and just play their respective instruments.

Let Dave do his thing, which not only is to sing and entertain, but to TALK to the media and generate a buzz.

Actually, I think ED and DAVE can work together. I think the bigger question is: can ED get AL to tour with DAVE for a summer, much less stay in the same studio session with DAVE for more than five-minutes? And can the whole band function as they did 23 years ago? When things began going on the train to total Shitsville around the end of the DIVER DOWN tour...They were machines when cranking out those albums (one-through-six), unlike the procrastination and malaise that dogged the HAGAR era

True, but what are ED's alternatives to this point aside from rubbing up against a sweaty hog in a neon yellow mu mu on stage? It's his only shot at going out on top. And desperation may drive him back the same way it kept those combustible personalities together for so long.
