Van Halen's audience over the years has been consistantly varied in age brackets - late teens/early 20's to early 50's.

Pretty random assumption on your part.

The bottom line is that The Police are as notoriously ill-tempered with each other as Van Halen is...if not more so...based on that alone, neither one of these tours has any likely longevity to it, when you get right down to it...

With The Police reunion, at least it is the original band.

And they are getting their wheels in motion, rehearsing in Vancouver. If Van Halen is back with Roth, shouldn't they be getting things in order by now? For all we know Roth could still walk away and they could try getting some no name hack in his place. And that would be suicide at this point.

To be truthful, though, I'm of a mind that I'd rather see this whole thing implode and Van Halen become the joke of the century with lead singer #4 and Wolfgang on bass, rather than something kinda half-assed...

That's really sad but really true.

All they have to do is hire Mike for a couple of months, and get Ed to lay off the sauce. Can't believe that's so fuckin' hard.

It is deeper than Mike, it is Dave and Ed, Dave and Alex and who knows who else or what else.
However, back to the P vs VH. The police will kick the shit out of Van Halen. Their audience is the money people. The mom and dad crowd.

I think the Police will get through it. They have the maturity and mutual respect to show up and honor the dates they've booked - if for no other reason than the work ethic. I doubt you'll see them hanging out together - they probably won't even stay in the same hotel, but they'll make it work for 90 minutes a night and give the whole thing the respect it deserves.

Which is, if there was any fucking justice in this universe, what Roth, Anthony and the Van Halens would be doing right now...

I would be 1000 times more interested in a classic Van Halen reunion than a Police reunion...unfortunately, there's that "Eat Ed's Shit and Get What He Gives Ya" aspect of this (i.e. Wolfgang on bass)...

Well, the Police, as pointed out above, are way ahead in this game. Got professional PR, not a novice from the porn industry who is boffing the guitar player while he's passed out.....

Professional rehearsals, professional tour machine, proper promotion and media relations, ......

Everything that this Van Halen reunion doesn't have.

Like it or not, there are casual fans of both bands who will have to choose which overpriced ticket to buy this summer, and if VH doesn't get their shit together, that is where a lot of money will go.

Both. If their paths crossed, I would pay good money to to hear EVH, DLR, Sting and Stewart Copeland play Roxanne at a sound check or something (with DLR singing of course). Dream on...
"There's a little bit of Van Halen in everybody!" DLR

The Police = BFD.....The last good album they put out was Zenyatta Mondatta....Sting's ego matches Eddie's....

I'm alot skeptical about this. I heard about this Police reunion on the radio today and it pretty much took up the entire commercial break. The guy barely even mentioned VH and then it was in passing along these lines, "Oh! and Van Halen are back with Diamond Dave and plan to tour this summer with Eddies son playing base." That pretty much sums up the interest now that another band with a legacy is reuniting. I think it would be alot different if it were truly the original line up but ultimately its already being lost in the news. I want this to happen so fucking bad but it seems the Police are being more open and professional about the whole deal which may allow them to run away with the years biggest tour. Now, having said that. Dave knows how to work PR so I'm thinking this could be the tour that really sneaks in under the radar and just suprises the hell outta of everybody including we true VH fans so I will not count them out. I believe it can be that good if everyone in the band really wants it to succeed I don't see a limit to its success.

The last show I saw he and the band took requests toward the end of the show. They played anything people threw out. I requested Back in Black....to my fucking amazement....they played it!
YES, that was a joke. I love Andy Summers too.

Yup. But they also had THREE good ones before that. The Police are a bigger fish as far as mainstream culture goes, that is just a fact. You will find more "plays" of Police songs (singles) in contemporary radio than VH. VH was an album and tour band. Big difference. Obviously, if I had to choose, it would be CVH all the way, but in MAINSTREAM culture, the Police have the edge.

True. And NONE of the Police members have EVER had booze or drug problems. That goes a long way with the promoters. VH is always a gamble.
