Re: God Bless Edward Van Halen!
Dear Misguided: May I interject for a moment:
Flashback to Pasadena - circa 1976-ish...
Eddie playing guitar like a virtuoso...YES.. AND...
Dave steps into the picture with his beligerent enthusiasm which equally matches Ed's talent...
Dave yearns for the band to move on to greater heights and out of Pasadena city limits...into Hollywood. Dave "Marketed and Spearheaded" the band to get them gigs at the Starwood & Gazzari's where they would be seen/approached by Gene Simmons.
If you watched "Early Years of Van Halen" DVD, you'd learn that Alex was quoted as saying that Dave walked around and strutted his stuff with a certain confidence, which is why (besides wanting to use his PA) was asked to be a part of the band..mind you, without the "Legendary Nordic Name" as of yet (another ROTH idea).
It was the "Merging" of The Virtuoso and The Entertainer that created the "Joy of Van Halen" recipe.
Had it not been the combination of ingredients in equal parts of BOTH..the cake would have been underbaked.

Without his talent & brilliance, this board would not exist.
It baffles me how little respect is shown to the man that gave you all your favorite albums & redefined the guitar in a hard rock context.
Ed created the entire foundation, he wrote the songs.
It all started with Edward, not Dave, not Al, not Michael Anthony.
Would Jim Dandy, i mean David Lee Roth, (just kidding, folks) have a career without ED?
Doubtful.
For Dave to be entertaining, he needed some actual songs to back up the atttude.
Dave was the icing on the cake from 78-84, but Ed was/is the whole fucking cake.
Am i wrong, am i somehow misguided?
Enlighten me.
