I dunno what Dave did or didn't do.

I just know that hubby's lead singer was completely against any band member having a public relationship. He wanted them all single or either to appear single at all times.

Us girls were cramping the band's style.

Yeah, he did. I'm taking what she says about the band with a grain of salt, because she's just repeating what Ed told her for the most part.

I don't really see the point of even talking about the band at all regarding her weight issues. She could have said 'my husband was in a band and wasn't very happy.' The end. Bringing up all she does is unnecessary. I suppose she figures it would sell more books, because her story is pretty boring. So she writes about the band and Mackenzie Phillips' drug problems! She titled some of the chapters with Van Halen song titles too.

I know she's trying to get a career back and she wants a sitcom, but I really think she's going about it the wrong way.

Seems like a lot of info we already knew, regarding the mechanics of Ed and Dave's relationship.

I skimmed the thing at Borders waiting on my son the other night... eh, it was on a front and center display placement, main entry isle as part of the overt marketing behind it.

This Borders had not sold one single copy with that prominent pitch, and the thing had already been out the better part of a week following the Opra plug.

I sure as hell didn't buy one, but she's got no retro news on Ed re VH that Lorna didn't pass on years ago to this old cowboy.

It's cool that she likes Dave as a person and thinks he's talented. I wouldn't have thought she would have too much to say about him. I bet he has told Wolf some cool stuff about the past !! What did she say about Sammy ??

Yngwie did his own take on stuff EVH ripped off from Alan Holdsworth.

(Vai and Satch can fuck off.......they aren't even good enough to be Eddie or Yngwie Guitar techs).

                  So yah....Valerie talked shite there.....she isn't a Guitar Player/Musician.

What is up with this site & everyone OWNING everyone else?

Yngwie is a relic from 1985, can't write a decent song to save his life.
Edward rewrote the freaking vocabulary & created compositions that are fueling this nostalgia tour.
Yngwie never had an idea as groundbreaking as Meanstreet or Cathedral (but he sure copied Cathedral with his cheeseball 'echo etude'.)
Ed leads, the swedish metaball follows. Case closed.

you're so rite! malmsteen also imitated ritchie blackmore on stage in an embarrassing way and never got much further than employing blackmore's ex-singers from rainbow! indeed, except on the record he did with joe lynn turner, he rarely composed a real song, whereas blackmore was and still is song-orientated instead of masturbating on guitar!

I believe Eddie produced their first album around 1988.... weird. Maybe they had a different drummer by then?

Yes, you're right. That was in the book. That's the connection to the band and how Val met the guy.

It was a one night stand and her only infidelity she says.

OK...I've read over 3/4 of the book now; and I have to say don't waste your money if you think you'll get any insight to Van Halen. There is NOTHING new in here. This is a book for women.

As for Sammy, she barely mentions him. At the point when things between Sam and Ed deteriorated, she was not invested or involved or interested in the band and what went on. By this time, Wolfie was her main concern and Ed had confessed to numerous affairs and they were very disconnected. Ed had been in and out of rehab several times, and she had given up on trying to fix him.

The only thing I've read so far that I didn't know was that Ed was being blackmailed by a woman he slept with. She took naked pictures of him (with his guitar apparently) in his bed (yeah, he fucked her in his and Val's bed), and she threatened to give the pictures to the press. He paid her for about a year, then stopped. She sold the pictures and they were in some tabloids. Kind of odd that Val didn't really say anything beyond that as far as repercussions to her career. Maybe nobody cared?

This was about 1995. I never heard this or saw the pictures, but I really didn't follow Van Halen once Dave left, so I don't know much about those years other than what I've picked up here from you guys who did keep up on them.

She didn't say anything about Mike either, except mentioning that Ed was hurt that Dave sang at Mike's wedding but wouldn't be a groomsman or sing at Ed's wedding a month later.

My take on her marriage to Ed is that they were NEVER really happy. Never ever. They tried to force happiness for a few weeks at a time by going on vacations or whatever, but it never lasted. They never saw each other. In the beginning, when they did see each other it was nothing but partying. She tried like hell to keep up with him and they both did a lot of coke. Ed lived in the studio or on the road, and Val did a lot more movies and TV than I ever realized. She worked constantly.

                          So much for appearances.

Unless some of you guys would be interested to know that Ed was a gentle, tender lover or that Val fucked Steven Spielberg (before Ed). Maybe you would enjoy it. I won't judge.

She copied the line about Ed being a gentle, tender lover from Sammy's book.
