This pretty much sums up Ed's life as I see it after reading this book. 2004 after Tucson show where Ed had a meltdown:

"By this point, Ed also hated Sammy. There always had to be a bad guy in his life, someone responsible for all of his problems, and as far as he was concerned, that was Sammy now."

    2007:

"Although he'd shown up the previous Christmas sober, he'd relapsed as Van Halen prepared for a summer tour with Dave returning as singer. The bad-mouthing and politicking behind the scenes by Sammy and Michael Anthony, whom Ed had replaced with Wolfie, drove him back to drinking.

Al made it clear that he didn't want to tour unless Ed was sober. Then the capper was when Wolfie came home extremely upset one day after a photo shoot. He'd also run out of patience and said something like, 'That's it. I'm telling dad that I'm not doing the tour.' He didn't want to tell me what happened or whether he'd spoken to his father about it. Soon after, though, Ed checked himself in for treatment."
Certainly seems like Ed blames others for his unhappiness, at various times pointing the finger at whichever singer wasn't currently in the band, past record producers, managers, etc.

Now she is exposing herself as the bitch she really is. She married Ed because she wanted a bad boy. She has even admitted that. She hated being Barbara Cooper and wanted some naughyness in her life.
I don't think she's a bitch. I think she has had insecurity and low self-esteem issues from her early teens. She got all of her self-esteem from landing Ed. She was THE ONE chosen over all the women that (she thought) wanted him. It wasn't about him at all. It's the same way groupies think. It's not about the man at all, just being the chosen one. She claims she stayed with Ed because she was too stubborn to give up on the marriage, but she would not have been able to handle that kind of failure at that time. You don't stay in a miserable marriage for 20 years if you think highly of yourself.

She lost her virginity at 15 or 16 and slept with a bunch of guys including guests on the show. She would tell her parents she was staying at Mackenzie's and go to her boyfriends. She seemed pretty easy and jumped into bed pretty fast. Typical of no self-esteem. Fuck the guy so he likes me!

Ed actually made her wait. LOL. Kind of funny reading that.

Yeah, sex, drugs, partying, lying...she was not Barbara Cooper. And I remember those days and the press comparing her real life to Barbara, and I know I was under the impression back then that she just as virtuous.

She still has not gotten over her insecurities, and I wouldn't be surprised if none of this "change of life" lasts. I heard she got a talk show though, so there will be pressure for her to keep her weight down. Listening to her talk, she still doesn't "get it." She's no different. She got paid A LOT of money to follow a diet in public. Of course, you're going to do well for awhile. But if you honestly don't change your thinking, it doesn't last. She'll be fat again.

Exactly. And that's why I don't understand why she put all that shit about Dave in the book, and then say that at the end of the book. She enabled Ed all along agreeing with him that nothing was his fault while at the same time he was NEVER sober. I lost count of all the times he went to rehab. Ed blamed the failure of the marriage on Val too. Not a clue, this guy.

I don't think Val suffers from self esteem issues.

It's certainly a common theme in Ed's interviews.

When the guitars he licenses aren't up to his liking, he blames the manufacturers.

Didn't want Anthony in the band anymore, so he blamed the fact that Mike was playing with Hagar. "You can't be in two bands at once."

Blamed Hagar for his ouster in 1996. Blamed Roth for HIS ouster in 1996. Blamed the lawyers for the failed Roth reunion in 2000/2001.

I mean, I wasn't there and don't know what happened in these instances, but a resonable person will usually concede that there are at least two sides to any explanation of events.

With Bertinelli, it just seems a bit cloying and desperate that she's putting this stuff out there now, like it's some attempt to get whatever attention she can get to get people interested in her...er...career (such as it is). A pretty face who was at the zenith of her popularity in the early 1980s and is now doing Jenny Craig commercials.

              I mean, cmon........

Val will NEVER be a player again.....

              She knows this, right?

              Maybe it's all true?

              Hell, I don't know.

Ha. I bet Val wanted Dave to crack her ass but Dave could score way better poontang. What did Val say about Sam? Oh yeah, she said Hagar wanted to sleep with her but Val said sorry I'm not a lesbian and don't sleep with chicks that looks like Bette Midler. :D

I remember years ago some chick came out saying she banged Eddie in his and Val's bed. She said you could hear a car driving up to the home and Ed is looking out the window going,"Oh shit, it's Val!" I don't remember seeing any naked Ed photos, not like I want to see Ed's bare balls and ass. I wish Val was blackmailed and her cheating partner released some nude photos of her.

I remember reading in Roth's book that Val came to him first but he wasn't interested and then she focused on Ed's tuning room intently. I think Val was headhunting a trophy husband but her and Ed both shared an insecurity problem and that common ground was the basis for a long-term marriage by Hollywood standards.

I remember reading in US Magazine years ago Val lost her virginity in the back of a pickup truck to a guy named the cherry picker.

I've never met Val but my mom has. My parents used to live in Park City, Utah and Val and Ed had a second home there and Val's brother David also lived there and ran a small photography studio. My mom ran into Val in the grocery store. She does her own shopping.

I think Val just wants to jumpstart her career again and let Ed raise Wolfie. LOL! She wants new cock, money, and a revamped career. If she has to embarrass her son to do so so be it. Hey, Wolfie, you look a lot like that Schnider dude. Did he bang that slut mon of yours?

Val is an airhead. There is much she doesn't get. As far as diets go, they really don't work. Diets are temporary.

Yeah, she did. What about it?

"I bombed on Letterman. I barely smiled. Nervous and insecure, I kept turning away from Dave, who winced at several of my comments, making me even more uncomfortable. He also acknowledge my brief relationship with bandleader Paul Shaffer, pointing out that I'd been sixteen when I dated the then twenty-seven-year-old musician actor. 'We were just good friends,' said Paul, who looked as awkward as I felt at rehashing those days. Instead of leaving it alone. I tried to get a laugh by saying he dumped me when his girlfriend called.

I just wanted to get out of there. Dave must have felt the same way, since he's never had me back on the show."

This was two months after she cheated on Ed BTW. (She never told him about it until the blackmail thing hit the fan).

She has lost and regained 20-30 pounds pretty much every year of her life. She has successfully dieted in the past and this is no different. But she never kept it off. Unless you're going to live on that crappy processed Jenny Craig food the rest of your life, it's only a quick fix.

The only thing she has going for her now is that she is happy with Ed out of her life. She was an emotional eater and would eat when unhappy or lonely. As long as she stays happy, maybe she'll be all right.

It seems Wolfie is already taking after mom in that way. He saw a lot on that 2004 tour and never wanted to talk about it with Val. No, keep it all inside and bury it with food just like mom did.

To think there once was a day when saying Eddie Van Halen was your dad would have been thought of as pretty cool.
