Yeah but Val could have dumped Ed years ago before they had a kid together and from what I hear, Wolfgang runs a pretty good chance of comming from other sperm besides Ed's. LOL!

Why didn't Val get out? She wanted a bad boy and her ego got stroked being married to a hugely famouse rock icon.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!

      Bertinelli tells all in autobiography
      William Keck • USA Today • March 3, 2008

The title of Valerie Bertinelli's new book, "Losing It: And Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time," references much more than the actress's Jenny Craig weight-loss program.

In her autobiography, Bertinelli, 47, opens up about her romance with Steven
Spielberg and her rocky marriage to rocker Eddie Van Halen.

"I don't throw anybody under the bus here," says Bertinelli, who sent her ex-husband an advance copy, though she has yet to hear his reaction. "The one I'm hardest on is me, and I wanted to make that clear to Ed. I said, 'It's not about hurting you or hurting anybody else.' "

One person who will be avoiding the book is the couple's son, Wolfgang, who turns 17 this month.

"Wolfie said he wasn't going to," Bertinelli says with a chuckle. "He said, 'Mom, I
really don't want to know that stuff.' "

Bertinelli gets candid about some of the "stuff" in the book:

Q: Before you lost your virginity at 16, you learned about sex from your "One Day
at a Time" TV mom, Bonnie Franklin?
A: She explained sex more than I'd ever heard it explained before from any of my
girlfriends. She simplified it for me, that it's not this big scary thing, but to be very
careful about it because it can break your heart.

Q: From "One Day at a Time" to your angelic role on "Touched by an Angel," you have maintained a good-girl image. Are you concerned that your confessions of cocaine use, a lesbian kiss and infidelity might change longtime fans' perception of you?
A: I thought people just already assumed all this because of who I lived with. I've been talking about it so long with my girlfriends that I didn't think this would be big news. In my own little way, I want to show that we all have a story and our stories are so similar. It would be such an easier place to live if we didn't pretend to be something we're not.

Q: You write about placing more blame on one of your ex-husband's other women than you did on him. Why the double standard?
A: To this day, I really am much more angry at her than I ever would be at him. I don't
mean that all men can't (be faithful), but a lot of them can't. There are a lot of great men out there; I happen to be with one right now. I just think as women, we need to stick together, and we don't need to be (sleeping with) another woman's man. I'd been to this woman's house pregnant! There's nothing more wrong.

Q: You write about your ex in such a loving way. Though you have a boyfriend (Tom Vitale), are you still in love with your ex-husband?
A: I do love Ed so much, and I care about what happens to him. He's my son's father. I was very, very in love with Ed in the beginning, but I was 20. I'll always love him, but not in that way. It's now like a mother/son or brother/sister thing. He has been with his girlfriend, Janie (Liszewski), for almost two years, and they come over for Christmas dinner. And Ed and Tom get along great. They're funny together.

Q: Now that Wolfie is playing with Van Halen, are you worried about him falling down the same addictive path as his dad?
A: Actually, I think quite the opposite has happened. He has seen what it has done to his father, and he knows what his father's like when he's not drinking. He knows how drugs and alcohol change his personality so dramatically, so that has been a helpful tool. Along with my words, actions have a powerful impact.

I just started reading the book last night. I don't know why everyone dumps on her. Dave wrote a book -- I think Ed shrugged it off -- perhaps wasn't interested in reading what Dave said. Ed can write one too, if he wants to.

Page 9 is interesting --- Val was at the Toronto concert -- "Romeo's Delight" her fave. She watched the concert from the sound board. She writes ---

"The hard-rocking songs took me back to another time, but something was different. I noticed it while watching from the soundboard, and then again as I walked around, burning off nervous energy. Ed, though playing guitar spectacularly, was having equipment trouble. I saw him pushing buttons and talking to a tech off to the side of the stage. It was the kind of situation that used to set him off into an alcoholic-fueled rage, but he kept his cool while they tried to fix the problems." .... [later Ed calls Val on the phone] Val says, "I noticed you had a difficult night but were able to work through it." I said, "I was impressed." .... Ed says, "When things were going wrong, I just looked across the stage at Wolfie and knew I didn't have any problems," he said.

Well, I think the continued sound tech problems have perhaps taken their toll on Ed. Maybe his sound totally shutting off in Atlanta was a huge freak out for him. I felt like the presence of Wolfie was partly intended to keep Ed on track with sobriety. I hope whatever the problems are, he is getting the best help.

then we know that ed is on the booze again...tell me that smashing a guitar on the floor during a song, screaming at some tech and then pulling a monitor from the stage is not alcoholic-fueled-rage...I couldn't find any relaxing "everything-is-fine"-looks at wolfgang in these scenes...

This book had the potential to be revealing, but given what's been aired in this thread I certainly won't be buying it.

I've never really cared what Val has to say about anything to be honest. Seems like another hanger-on to me...

Has anyone noticed how this was released very soon after the divorce was finalized? She had to be sure she got half before she spilled the beans that she possibly cheated first.

She confessed about the cheating to Ed back in 1994 after he confessed to her. He had no choice really as someone was blackmailing him and he was sick of paying the ho.

As for half, I don't think she got it. She left him. He kept the mansion, and she bought a different smaller home for herself and Wolf. She also said the reason that she took the "Touched by an Angel" show was to make sure she had enough money to support herself and Wolf and not have to ask for alimony or child support. The show ended before she had hoped, so don't know if that panned out for her.

She got a lot of money for signing with Jenny Craig, and the book is a bestseller already. I'm sure she got a lot upfront, and I'm sure they told he to spice it up; because frankly without all the dirt, its a boring story about how she lost and regained weight for 25 years. She apparently has been offered a talk show now as well.

I agree that she probably had to spice it up. I do think that she probably thought about "Who" would want to read her story, other than the Jenny Craig crowd, so it seems that it was either suggested or she dedicated the book in hindsight to Ed by naming many of the chapters after VH Song Titles as well as adding the stories that VH Fans would want to read.

I thought it was interesting that the intro to the book began with her at the Toronto show. Sort of begins her story near the begining of the reunion tour. I wonder how many of the concerts she has attended.

                                HA!

Val is going to be in town this week signing her books.

Heard from a friend she did DC101 this morning and had good things to say about Ed, Dave, tour, etc...

I think I may have to buy the book just to get close enough to her to get a picture with her.

Do you think they will arrest me if I tackle her and proceed to go diving?

She may be an airhead, but I still want to HIT IT! OW!!!!!!!!!
