The only time studio musicians are used for these games is when it's stated so. The majority of the tracks use the master tapes the songs were recorded on. So, it *would* be Mike on those recordings unless they pulled a Sharon Osbourne and rerecorded just Mike's parts, which I highly doubt they did.

Exactly... he signed away his rights to use the name and registered trade marks/logos of the band. Same thing that Dave, Spammy and Gary had to when they left, quit or were fired.

I believe Mike's brother confirmed a couple years ago he retained song writing credits & publishing rights and therefore royalty rights for the whole VH catlog except Panama & Jump as Vinnie mentioned that emerged with the BOV1 liner notes.

It would be interesting to see if somewhere down the road WB puts out any new stock of VH records and we see the addition of Published by: Van Halen Music LLC, Diamond Dave Music LLC, Yessup Music LLC, Van Halen Music II LLC and the new I Grew a Pair Music LLC...

It's kinda dumb to put a digitally animated Wolfie on songs that were recorded before he was born.

Then, if there was a "Guitar Hero:Rolling Stones" I wouldn't want to see Digital Woody playing Mick Taylor or Brian Jones stuff either. Or Digital Darryl playing on Bill Wyman's stuff.

Leaving the historical record of the band intact should be a no-brainer, and has nothing to do with who's in the band now.

Actually, it's the entire 1984 album.... as of the 2000 remaster, Mikey's name was taken off the songwriting credits.

Maybe Eddie played bass on the whole record? I can't think of any other explanation, since it's doubtful that Mike ever wrote ANYTHING on any of the albums. Lyrics by Dave (or Hagar) music by Eddie. Figured that was obvious enough.

I have to check my 1984 remaster liner notes on that because from what I had seen, Mike was still credited for most of the songs, save for maybe Jump and Panama.

The first ever omission of Mike's writing credits for those two songs was actually in the liner notes to 1996's Best of - Volume 1 (as noted by Zah). Ironic considering Mike was still a member of the band back then.

Yes, but you and I know very well if there ever was a Stones Guitar Hero, Ronny Wood would be present on ALL songs -- not Taylor or Jones.

                  It's fucking STIUPED.

That is one thing, to go on tour and "give the kid a unique opportunity and start in the entertainment biz" but to mess with the historical representation I don't like it.

This kid is not "Van Halen" its only his last name and at that note his parents hadn't even met until years after the tunes were made.

this should be called "guitar hero: van headache edition" because you get the tunes, but with the headache of the wrong band lineup that goes with the music.

If they put out an album with Wolfie on it, and it doesn't tank, okay then Wolfie is in a band called Van Halen but so was Sammy and Gary.

Ron Wood earned a spot. Wolfgang did not.

                      Right! This is nepotism.

If I was Wolf I'd leapfrog Dad's band to get into film..

                        It's TOTALLY dumb!!!

Especially when, in the trailer, they show "two eras" of VH, one with the long-haired Roth and EVH, and then they "morph" into today's look. DLR with the short hair and EVH with his highlighted spikes.

But through it all, Wolf(it down)gang is there.

They should have just animated the band as they look today. Then it wouldn't be such a kick in the balls to mullet-boy.

Call me a purist... but if you're gonna tap the legacy at least stay true to what it really was. Using Wolfie is no different then erasing Mike's image from the origial album artwork in this case. It ain't right... I'm just sayin...

Not too mention that it looks gayer, and seems more awkward, than a Boy George-Liberace duet...

It just looks fake, stupid, and petty...

Now, if they wanted to be funny, they could have hung a bass on a giant glob of Eddie's sperm...

I'm just happy that my kids won't be exposed to Hagar when they play the game.

I don't think you're gonna see to many more of these band themed games... the Aerosmith one quickly found its way into the clearance bins and it's probably where the Metallica one is headed as well. I'm betting that since the Van Halen game was built off the 'Metallica' engine, they may release it with a pretty low sticker price as a hold over until GH5 is released.
