Scaling it up by population do you think they could sell out 15 x 20 000=300 000 people in the UK because I don't. Maybe only a few rock bands could.
I'm with you. I've been saying for years that an Arena tour in the UK would be difficult for VH to pull off. They' probably only play Wembley Arena/O2 Arena and Manchester and then call it a day. I don't think that those would be sellout gigs, either. If they were prepared to actually do some press, Classic Rock and Metal Hammer would help them sell some tickets.

And they can't do that with a media blackout.

They need to grow the fuck up or book themselves into theatres not arenas. They got away with it in the US but abroad they won't and I suspect that it won't hold up for long in the US either.

This is an information age and if they don't want to play ball then there are plenty of other bands who are all over it and in a recession people are choosy.

If you still decide to make the hike down here - a place to crash, lift from the airport, tour guide of the city, beers on the beach...the offer still stands, matey.

Cheers. I am very sorry for PB. This promoter is an absolute arsehead.
Then again VH could easily hold their own show here all with the right press goings on of course, and especially with a new album behind it...not a festival out in the middle of bloody nowhere (I just wonder if this woulda happened had it been The Big Day Out and not Soundwave?).

Suppose it's time to start making a Downfall/Hitler parody on this...

I've never viewed VH as a top draw act... ever. Always one of my favorites... but seriously only the top of the mid-tier in relation to the real top drawing bands.

They've never really reached the top peaks on their own like Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Beatles, U2, Michael Jackson, hell even Aerosmith, etc... I'd throw them at the top among bands like ZZ Top, Santana, etc... I think it has something to do with great guitar virtuoso stuff more than overall pop appeal.

I blame Hagar's era for this watering down... had the original line-up endured, we'd be having a different conversation...

I disagree... From '81 to '84 they were most definitely a top draw, had they kept going with DLR it would have reached that elite level with the bands you mentioned, although I would not include Aerosmith with that, they've been watered down for 25 years now.....

I'd have to say you are correct... 81 - 84 was so long ago in a musical galaxy, far, far away...

At least DLR has retrograded his website. Let's see how long it takes for van-halen.com to do the same.

True. I think if the Dave era had continued for one more album which had been as successful as 1984 then VH would have entered that 'top tier'.

As it stands today, a VH 'world' tour could not compete with Metallica, Aerosmith or Bon Jovi. To have decent success, they would HAVE to do press in large numbers.....
