What does warrant a need for caution is Ed plunking down yet more instrumentals. Given the last three he has foisted on the public (the "Neworld" waltz-thing that opened VHIII and the two sustainer wank-athons from that tedious porn flick), it's hardly a cause for optimism.
On the flip side, Eddie may feel the need to have an instrumental just to prove he still has it and that the recent stuff you mention was a result of his lack of sobriety rather than losing his chops. Eddie might think he has something to prove....and he kinda does in a way.“Great losses often bring only a numb shock. To truly plunge a victim into misery, you must overwhelm him with many small sufferings.”Comment

It's funny that out of those three tracks I hadn't heard the 1st one before, and listened to half of the other two once when they came out.
Bit of a wakeup reminder for anyone who has great hopes of an amazing new Van Halen album.Comment

I hope so but I'm pretty sure even a sober Eddie wouldn't have passed an audition into Roth's solo band if it was based on his playing alone.Comment

If Dave wasn't given his old post back that of being the 'Quality Manager' on songs/song structures, etc -- then I would be worried as to the type of album we will be hearing.
Might be a mis-mash of Van HALEN/HAGAR even VH3 type of songs -- just with Dave singing.

Another one of those classic genius posts, sure to generate responses. You log on the next day to see what your witty gem has produced to find no one gets it and 2 knotheads want to stick their dicks in it... Well played, sir!!Comment

And my fingers are crossed he can still pull it off. I believe he can. I base that on the live show I saw in Nov 2007 San Diego where he was exceptional, and a few clips from other shows where he was really good.“Great losses often bring only a numb shock. To truly plunge a victim into misery, you must overwhelm him with many small sufferings.”Comment

Given the evidence of the past 15 years or so, is there any way to be other than cautiously (if not cynically) optimistic? Hell, even Van Halen optimism is akin to masochism these days. Were we not all awaiting word on a Roth-fronted VH single and album 10 years ago?
The best thing any of us can do is not get our hopes up and expect little, if anything. Or as Judge Smails said in Caddyshack:

That's exactly the thing. You aren't the only one who feels that way. A lot of fans do. Which is all the more reason Eddie might have an instrumental on a new album to prove himself. I just wouldn't be surprised if there is a short ripping solo instrumental from Eddie more along the lines of Eruption and not 316. (Not saying he could or would do anything remotely close to Eruption again. I just mean more shred & less put your kid to bed time guitar)
Yes, the instrumental will be entitled "Two Burritos and a Root Beer Float!"
