They did play "She's The Woman" around 4pm today here in Toronto. The played a shitload of classic Van Halen all day.

Sadly they also played a shitload of Van h***r.

Last played Tattoo around midnight last night.

Agreed, Tattoo is a cool song. The one thing that could have been better was the official video. That didn't make a great impression on people. The other thing is the mix on ADKOT. The material is awesome but the mix sounds very compressed or "brickwalled" as some have mentioned. But it's still way better than what other classic rock bands are doing.

Anyway I thought Boold And Fire was the next single. Maybe next month? What's the life span of a typical single anyway?

Surely Interscope would have known about the whole Grammy/Adele thing ?
They either dont care about number 1 or it was a major oversight.

For them to be number 2 in this situation is still awesome.
I think the only reason we gave a shit about this was to bang yet
another nail in the Van Hagar coffin, not to worry, theres still plenty of nails
        to hammer in !

Can't help but wonder if 'Blood & Fire' had been the first single - and released with a more palatable video for the masses - instead of 'Tattoo' if we'd even be having this conversation or wondering who was going to take the #1 spot. My feeling is it would have been no contest with 'Blood & Fire'...or 'The Trouble With Never' for that matter. Or 'Stay Frosty.' Or 'You And Your Blues.' 'Tattoo' seems to have turned off a lot of rock fans who instantly judge an entire record by a single song.
My karma just ran over your dogma.

I agree, I don't dislike the song, I just think they could have chosen a better first single.

Hey we'll get #1 rock album

I must be one of the rare people that still rate Tattoo very highely.
Gave me the same chills as Me Wise magic did..

However I can see the arguement for Blood and Fire being the first single .

Whatever happens, at the end of the day we got exactly what we wanted.

Hey and now I know what an Adele is, and definately know I dont want
to buy her album. Sounds like something my Mother would listen to,
not a middle aged man in denial, that still loves his metal !!!

                Chart Prediction As Of 2/13

Looks like we may come up short. Fuck'n bummed, #2 is cool, But it ain't #1.

                    Brethren and Sistren,

Here's the thing: Tattoo isn't a BAD™©® song PER SE™©®. It's just that it was superfucking UNDERWHELMING™©® in the face of all the ANTICIPATION™©® and pent-up FRUSTRATION™©® of the past 28 years. I think some OLD SCHOOL FANS™©® that heard TATTOO™©® thought, and RIGHTFULLY SO™©®... "MEH™©®!!!"

I heard it and thought, "Fuck! Ok, not bad, but this is not the CUMBACK™©® I was anticipating. Then the snippets came out and I felt more CONFIDENT™©® and EXCITED™©® about the release. Then I get the ALBUM™©® and the rest is history.

Point being, I know some guys at a local auto dealership down here. Guys my age and some younger guys in the service department. And they are always blaring Metallica, Pantera, Ozzy, Van Halen, Motley Fucking Crue, and newer COOKIE-CUTTER™©® shit... Tool/Korn/Linkin/Foo/WStripes/Etc. Anyhow, I visited the shop, and asked who wants to go to the concert. A UNANIMOUS NO THANKS™©®!!!!! Seriously? You bitches don't want to go?!!?! "Naw, man, we heard Tattoo and some snippets, just don't cut it." So... I feel like someone just called MY BABY™©® ugly... I come back a week later with the new disc and put it in the shop stereo. Start cranking up She's The Woman, and by the time HBSD was done, most of the shop was ready to buy a block of seats for the Vegas show.

These guys like, not LOVE™©®, Classic Van Halen. They are aware enough of all the drama and soap opera bullshit to have only a passing interest in the band anymore. Many thought Dave was completely bald coke addict and Edward was still in rehab making pornos (no, not soundtracks, a couple guys "heard" he was IN a porno). WHAT THE FUCK™©®?!?!?

So my point is that it's THESE FANS™©®, the guys with a passing interest who would have been BLOWN AWAY™©® had they first been EXPOSED™©® to a NUTKICKING™©® single. Tattoo could have been the second, third, fourth single. Fine by me. But as the first single, it was a MISCALCULATION™©®.

And let's face it, the SOLO™©® isn't as punchy as the rest of the songs, and the "Tattoo, Tattoo" chorus is weak unless you're Gwapo's or some other Brethren's daycare/grade school age daughters singing along. It just slogs along, and doesn't seem completely fleshed out like ATCWR. But let me not digress, I listen to Tattoo and don't generally skip it, but seriously, it is the weakest of a HUGENORMOUS™©® ROCK COLLECTION™©®. And that choice of single, along with the release date not being a few weeks earlier in the year, all contribute to a No. 2 debut.

                    That is all.

We all listened to it while watching that crappy video they made. So the video made it sound worse than it is. If you can forget about the video & just listen to the song it's great. Hard to unsee things though. First impressions & all.

Plus, as well, another thing, & also....the very first listen we got was a 30 second clip that was the worst 30 sec clip you could pick to represent the song. Again, first impressions linger.

Im not so sure a different first single would have had the impetus to beat
the whole Grammy/Adele thing. Too much momentum there. Not sure any
release would have beaten it. Not even Whitney Houston passing away.

Went with the GFS 9yr old son to the local Hockey Store/haven to get the skates sharpened Sunday...and to get a new equpiment bag....

What was playing in the store???

Complimented the owner for having the good taste to play ADKOT on his stero system for the entire store to enjoy....

And the Kid asked me today to put ADKOT on his Ipod so he could listen to it anytime...rather than just when he's in my car!!!

Smart kid, he's gonna go far!!!
