Originally posted by Christ67 Ok the "General" has made a strange observation. They are using the same marketing approach they used before. If this abhoration you call Van Hagar is even partially talented why not just release a new album?? New approach to selling it?? Why try to scrape in Van Halen fans with old material?? Here's an idea {They don't have the talent to pull it off} Eddie is too much of a drunk to play. Sober him up! Jesus this reaks of fraud selling one group of material as someone else. Hey Dave, Great job avoiding this trainwreck called VH.
David Lee Roth made VH great, don't forget it.
Okay then why didn't VH release a new CD in 1996 with Diamond Dave?
Originally posted by General Hina You failed to mention the normal people who like both versions of the band.
Those people far out number the the pro DLR people here or the pro Sammy people at the links.
Over and Out,
General Hina
These people would already own the albums and wouldn't need another best of.
i'm not sure how the best of is going to sell but it's definitely going to out sell any DLR solo material made after 1988...and that's only because dave had vai to help him in 86-88...
The disc will sell at least to the douchebags that are stupid enough to go see this tour and pay for the privilige. I am a fan of Dave and Sam era VH, but I am a much bigger fan of the Dave era. Even though I like the Sam era, I stopped buying their cds after 0u812, which I liked. Someone gave me FUCK, which was ok, but I couldn't buy anything after that. I was given the last best of for free, I wouldn't buy it because I owned most of it. I loved the two new Dave songs though. I was given VHIII and banished it from my cd player.....and I like Gary and am a hardcore extreme fan. Anyway, the point is that I would be one of the people that you wouyld think would buy this, and I am offended that they even put it out. There is no reason for this disc. MAybe if they didn't out one out in 96, but not now. Will it sell? I guess., but I can't se it outselling VHIII.
I'll take a stab @ this since I think the EngineRoom was a little overheated and had things out of order some on his list of why VH reached 'Influential' status.
1 - Roth-Era Material - EngineRoom had this at #4 but even a 'Sheep' recognizes without the material the band is not going to last. There have been plenty of personalities in music but without the music they fade away before burning out.
2 - Eddie Van Halen - No matter who the singer was, people want to see Eddie do his thing. Up from #3 on EngineRoom's list
3 - Women Love Romantic Ballads - Up from #5, you may not like the music but the direction VH took enabled them to expand their audience and bring in new people for all the "Dave or Gravers" that left. EngineRoom is right with this "And any straight guy will tell you, that if it'll make 'em melt, then buy 2 tickets. This is the entire secret behind Van Hagar."
4 - David Lee Roth - The guy was the mouthpiece for one of the biggest bands in the world and created a legacy that was duplicate and often ripped off by clones...same as Eddie. Has become a clone of himself but was integral to the band's success and legacy...if he didn't would this site exist?
5 - Live Show - No matter who the singer was, VH lived and died with their live show. The decadence in the early days helped make the band the biggest band in the world and Sam's fan approach brought the band to a new lever, while Cherone revived the material that people had been craving to hear and gave fans the only true representation of the Van Halen catalog.

Over, Out and far Superior,
General Hina
I gotta tell you one thing. I'm far superior to you in any music knowledge and who's really influencial. If you wanna do a Beatles quiz, for example, you name the time and place, buddy, and I'll kick your ass. Pick your poison.
Originally posted by General Hina This 2 CD set will be a huge seller.
Not because of the 3 new songs but because this CD will appeal to the casual fan.
This 2 CD set is a definite catalogue killer as it has most if not all of the songs a casual fan knows and loves.
Again this will make tons of money in the long run for Dave and Sammy.
Over and Out,
General Hina
no shit

You are definitely a nerd.
"Do a Beatles quiz?"
You can do that after your weekly Dundgeon and Dragons game.
Grow up idiot.
My brain aches from lack of use when I answer your silly posts.

General Hina is king
General Hina is like a piece of gum on the bottom of your shoe. You try to get rid of it, but it keeps sticking around.
You call me an idiot, and you can't even spell correctly?
I called you out, oh genius of pop music. Come on, let those few brain cells you got get some work, instead of filling up this board with all your bullshit every day.
You said VH can't compare with the Beatles. Why? I want facts, not your opinion.
