For me the shows are to short. They could do 4 more tunes in 20 minutes. How they dropped Mean Streets is beyond me. And they should be doing Stay Frosty or As Is from the new CD. And the fact that I havent seen any film guys on the stage at any shows yet. They won't release a dvd of the shows looking up just from the pit . Thats about it for me. The headset is gone so that doesn't count anymore. Love the stage, it looks better than 07. And Wolf belongs this tour. He is proving that every night. Were are you Elvis ?
Any tour disappointments

My only disappointment was that idiot sitting next to me at Mohegan Sun. And that wasn't the band's fault.
Oh dear.

Personally, I didn't think there was enough of the typical Dave interaction with the crowd (outside the confines of a song). For instance, not once (if I remember correctly) at the Mohegan Sun show, did Dave address the crowd after a song. As soon as one song ended, another song began. It was just song after song after song. Obviously, many people would think this was a positive, but I would've like the typical DLR "Toast", or a "Look at all the people here tonight" and that kind of stuff.
To me, even Dave's ad libs in the songs seemed short. Frankly, the show seemed rushed to me. Even the encore was weird. They never left the stage, they just ended the second to last song, and then announced they were doing an encore. Again, as if they were in a race to get the show over. That's how it came across to me.
I'm glad I went. I thought it was good. They sounded great. They seemed happy. But I just thought it seemed like they were rushing through it.Comment

It did seem a bit "rushed"....
I thought Alex's drum solo went by in the blink of an eye, and was essentially the same deal as 2007/08.
Craiger also hit one thing that was a little strange, with them jumping right into the encore without leaving the stage. It does give the impression that they just want to get done and get the fuck out.
But the quality of the show and the performances makes it hard to be too critical about anything.Originally posted by perilouspete

Shit...they could do a really cool mashup of "Ice Cream Man" and "Stay Frosty"...it's the same groove in the same rhythm.
There are plenty of places where both of those songs could be laced together without missing a beat, and since they are both essentially "novelty" tunes (for lack of a better term) it would not be jarring.Originally posted by perilouspete

Add an Iowa date on a second leg - Ames or Des Moines.
Slow the F down in these rapid-fire shows. They have to know - certainly Dave gets this - that when VH comes to town, it's like a holiday. Most people (except for bad-asses that hit multiple shows!) wait YEARS for this one day. We want town recognition from Dave. We want banter. We want silly stories and goofy jokes and bad puns. In essence, we want Dave to take the time to be himself, the Toastmaster General, in our hometown. Hell, we go apeshit when Dave tears into a soundguy or a spotlight tech - because it's somewhat DIFFERENT, semi-unique to our particular show. If that means duct taping the city's name on the stage so he can remember where he's at, then do it.
Otherwise, not much has disappointed me so far in what I've seen on vids. They're bringing it nightly!
And I agree - Elvis will either have a list of disappointments as long as Dave's Oakland scarf, or he'll tear into us for being disappointed at anything.
My karma just ran over your dogma.Comment

I really feel like the rapid fire pace is just to give us more for our money. They are already doing almost 2 hours. These are longer shows than most all of the ones back in the day. Or, maybe they are trying to keep it more of a "band" deal, as opposed to any of them getting caught up in the individuality aspect. Dave took a bit of shit back in '84 for all the "costume" changes, sword routine, and such. I am glad Al's solo is short and to the point. I'd love to see them eliminate it, but he has earned his time. I just look at it like they could replace that solo with another song, like "Stay Frosty". It would probably be an unpopular decision, but I'd even be willing to give up Ed's solo for more songs. A lot of the stuff he plays during his solo is from some great songs. Just do the full intro, or whatever, and do the whole song. If they need a break, lengthen the set, and take a 15 minute or so intermission half way through. The last half of the show could be the "encore"!Comment
