Dave has not been...either trying to go to high when it's not necessary...fuckin up lyrics or just mush-mouthin them to get through the song...

He was magic on the 07/08 Tour...I'll Wait, Little Dreamer, I'm The One come to mind...he never missed a beat and I saw 5 shows last tour...

I hope he finds it before this tour closes...

      Greensboro or bust, April 21....
I mean, I'm not baggin' on the guy, but I've seen full-length clips from the rehearsals and quite a few dates on the tour so far...it's along the lines of what ZahZoo is saying, in that Roth is making some really peculiar vocal range choices for some of the tunes, and the results aren't really sounding so hot at times.

I agree 100% that Roth was very disciplined last time around...ALL the way around. Singing more verses than he often did when in the later days of CVH...this time around he's straining because he's often trying to force his singing into a higher range than the stuff was originally recorded in...for whatever reasons...like you said, going high when it's not even necessary. I mean, I understand the guy is crowding 60, but it's almost as if he's making it harder than it has to be, very possibly to the detriment of some of the tunes.

On the flip side, I agree Ed is fucking KILLING it, and also agreed that the whole band instrumentally (this includes Wolf) are knocking it out of the park.

The ebay tickets didn't sell, so now I'm going to Nashville, fuck it! Ain't my damn fault if I want to get my rocks off after some asshole contractor laid me off. Plus I was in Iraq for six months, which means I DESERVE TO SEE VAN HALEN!

I know some dipshits (like ELVIS) would want me to feel guilty for using unemployment money to have some fun. But IMO, they can all go FUCK THEMSELVES! HAHAHAHAHA!!! :mad0244::fucku2:

I saw them March 26th at the Sovereign Center in Reading, PA., where they made the live debut of "Blood and Fire", my favorite song from ADKOT. I felt so honored! Seriously, it was like the best surprise I could have gotten. I felt like a kid that came downstairs Christmas morning really hoping for that one toy, but truly believing that it wouldn't be there, and then POW...finding it there under the tree!!!!

I thought the show was awesome, but I wish they would have played "Outta Space". Other than that, absolutely NO complaints. Ed was soooo on the money with his playing! "Cathedral" live is just fucking mesmerizing!!!!! Especially when you have a few drinks in you...heh heh.

Not really a disappointment, but I'd like to see Ed break out out the new Wolfgang designed for "set neck traditionalists" you know, the one that, cough cough, looks exactly like, cough cough, a Les Paul.

Again, this is not so much a disappointment, just an observation, but, having seen them once on this tour along with viewing a few hundred or so You-Tube clips, I'm noticing that there's no echo or delay used on Dave's voice the way there was back in the day. Back then, it was an unnecessary crutch, but sounded cool hearing the last word of a line echo then fade.

I almost wish they'd employ the use of such an echo/reverb on the last line of the verses in Chinatown. If Dave said "Begins and..." and let the echo take over, he'd have a few seconds to refill the wind tank for the next line. That song is no doubt, one of his biggest challenges live. I don't view the use of echo or delay on the vocals as an easy way out. If its OK to throw all sorts of jape on a guitar, why not a voice?

A month ago I would have said that DLR wasn't holding his own on this tour for the same reasons that were posted all over the internet including here. But he is back and killed it at Greensboro.

Really the only disappointment is that "Light Up the Sky" was on the official setlist at Reading and then pulled. Since I was at that show, it was a downer to hear that.

Slow the f down in these rapid-fire shows. They have to know - certainly dave gets this - that when vh comes to town, it's like a holiday. Most people (except for bad-asses that hit multiple shows!) wait years for this one day. We want town recognition from dave. We want banter. We want silly stories and goofy jokes and bad puns. In essence, we want dave to take the time to be himself, the toastmaster general, in our hometown. Hell, we go apeshit when dave tears into a soundguy or a spotlight tech - because it's somewhat different, semi-unique to our particular show. If that means duct taping the city's name on the stage so he can remember where he's at, then do it.

Otherwise, not much has disappointed me so far in what i've seen on vids. They're bringing it nightly!

And i agree - elvis will either have a list of disappointments as long as dave's oakland scarf, or he'll tear into us for being disappointed at anything.

agree 1,000,000% is it like a holiday when vh hits town....they should slow down....have some bands jams...stretch their legs a little....do a mini acoustic mish mash of could this be magic/little dreamer/big bad bill/simple rhyme.....extended a tune like they did "doctor" at the us festival..and let dave address the crowd with one long rap in the first half of the show and then the one before "ice cream man"...also wolf needs to play a solo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nice. People complaining about Roth on a "Roth Army" forum. I'm starting to wonder if a significant number of people on this site are Roth fans or really just fans of "King Edward" who prefer the Roth era (and probably saw Van Hagar every time they came through town). No, Dave is not what he was 30 years ago. Anyone expecting that is a moron though. And for the record I was kind to Alex VH in my Nashville review. Alex is a shell of his former self in many ways. His drum solo is extremely short so that he can pace himself and get through the shows. He doesn't have nearly the speed or power he once possessed. He doesn't attempt many of the more complicated fills he did on the records anymore and inexplicably he changed the iconic drum fill to I'll Wait on many performances on this tour. Are people constantly giving him shit? NO. Most people reviewing shows don't know a thing about drums anyway but Al is absolutely not what he was. If you're going to give DLR shit then let's be honest about EVERYONE.

OK I AM GOING TO WEAR THIS FUCKER OUT....
                          1. Wish Eddie would bring back the dry ice/fog effect back during the CATHERDRAL portion of his solo. It was an awesome effect and made this something unique to this tour. It created a vibe. It was just plain cool as fuck. Maybe I'm simple minded on this subject. Maybe I dig it cause VH hasn't been the type of group to use props or effects and it was rad and totally sensational to finally get one. I liked it. My Louisville show got it.....my Pitt and St Louis shows did not.
                          2. Can the band play a flat out barn burner during the encore??? Play JUMP a couple of songs earlier. The two songs that would be perfect for the encore (my encore compliant is next) are in order: I'M THE ONE and then HOT FOR TEACHER. Leave us exhausted and have fist pumped during the encore. JUMP is a let down ENERGY wise for the final song of the evening. Plus they fucking closed with it last tour...are the carved in stone to close with the biggest chart topper????
                          3. Throw us die hards a curveball and play AIN'T TALKIN' 'BOUT LOVE second in the set or open with it. It would completely throw our bearings off and leave us guessin' as to what they would follow Ed's solo with.
                          4. GIVE US A REAL ENCORE!!!!!!!!! Give the fans a chance to really cheer for you and pound the chair in front of them. Give us a shot to let you know how lucky we are to have a VH holiday today by screaming at the top of our lungs in the dark. Take a bow and give those young fans a real example of how it's done by the big boys...not the way WARM UP ACTS do their encores. It may be small, but a small kid ask his dad why there was no part where "the band runs off stage and don't come back until we scream loud enough for them to play again???" Enuff said my young Halenoid....
                          5. Can Alex light his gong on fire at the end of UNCHAINED just once this tour??????????
                          6. This is the first tour where VH is out supporting a new record and NOT playing at least six cuts from it. I know a lot of these older "fans" haven't heard it and bolt to the lobby during these songs during the show. News flash if any of you are on here....buy the record...I know you will at least LOVE half of the songs on the album. You have to give it chance. You are stuck in the past...and this album has a retro vibe and sound to it. Enough that you old sticks in the mud (I talked to one at the show..he said "Ahh man..Tattoo wasn't very Van Halen soundin to me. {well did u hear STAY FROSTY or SHE's THE WOMAN?} Stay what??? Rest of the album?? Nahh..it's all just new fangled rockin an rollin' without the old sound and attitude. I don't need 9 more songs like Tattoo or Learning to Dream". {it's Learning to See douchebag...} These sticks in the mud need to be force fed 7 or 8 new tunes from ADKOT. Which means a 25 song set minimum....
                          7.BRING BACK PYRO!!!!!!!!!!!!
                          8. Can't Dave get a long rap during the first part of the gig???The most entertaining moments (and funniest) came when DLR pulled things out of his top hat and commented. He talked TO AND ABOUT the crowd. Give Dave more than 7 minutes before Ice Cream Man....it ain't enuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
                          9. The band has no fan interaction. The "ego" ramp is gone. There is 15 feet between the barrier and the stage. The VIP package that costs over a grand doesn't get a handshake or a picture or a small chat. There is no direct contact with the fans. Security is VERY tight this tour.Just try and be the guy who asks Eddie or Al for an autograph when they get off the bus. This tour is different. Dave has ALWAYS been cool as fuck to fans..only know of ONE story where he was rude to a fan. But, Roth gets to the gig late. The Van Halen's are there around 4:00 PM and stay until the gig..either on the bus or in their tuning room or guest dressing room. Seems like they are germ a phobes or somethin now. Maybe the cancer thing has somethin to do with it. Maybe Rev Al has to pray so many hours a day and can't waste time talking to us
Finally, I am happy with each second of the shows I have seen. I just answered the thread honestly and unfiltered. Peace and power to the music....

I never noticed it...but they are getting older. I am sure they have lost a step. I never trash Dave..I think for the first half he is FLAWLESS..as good as he has ever been. He has small...very small issues with two songs...besides that...DAVID LEE ROTH is kicking ass on this tour. Granted in 2008 he was amazing....like he was taking vocal coaching everyday. Al seems pretty killer to me. No need to drag someone else into a bitch about one band member.

went through some reviews from the latest concert...man, what a bunch of cell phone flashing pussies the american audience became...I've seen the IRONS and the PRIEST last year over here...no seats...good old fashioned moshpit...all sweaty fist pumping and roaring...I wonder when you will have an organ player to fill in between the songs while the giant screen says "applause"...

how can somebody who is not gayer than a hagar audience on a cruiseship complain about a rock concert being too hot, I don't get it...here's a little advice for you:

Why? Did you think Alex was going to reach through your screen, grab you by the collar of your shirt and give you a piece of his mind like Kareem Abdul Jabbar gave the kid in Airplane The Movie? Not gonna happen.

As Dave said at the '07 press conference, "judge us harshly". He can handle the feedback. Even though this is a Dave fan site, I think it's perfectly acceptable to voice 'tour disappointments' as the thread heading requests. I take issue with your opening statement whereby you label people as King Ed/Van Hagar fans for being puzzled by some of Dave's current vocal stylings on some songs. You're missing the point of just how boring it would be around here if it was nothing but a gushing love fest of all things Dave. You might also notice that virtually everyone here is in agreement that Dave owned the '07-'08 tour. It's all good.
