I will continue to support Ed's stripes as long as I live - they represent Classic Van Halen and I want as much of it as I can get. Licensed or not. But I won't support a Van Halen without Dave. Period. End of fucking story. Everyone should bow down to Sir Wolfie and toss their hundred dollar bills his way for his magnificent, magical and completely clairvoyant abilities to understand what none of the rest of us could understand without his Supremely Guiding Hand. Let's all bow down to Wolfie and shower him with Jack Daniels because we should all know that Van Halen began and ended with Him. And every single one of us should be soooo thankful that ONLY Wolfie had the forethought, and yea, the hindsight, to understand that Dave was the only singer to bring Van Halen back out into the spotlight...never mind that Van Halen (yes, that's what Ed called it), never mind that Van Halen had languished in the shit-hole-toilet-bowl of history for 20 + years. Yes, we should all bow down to Wolfie. For without the Wolf, we would be without Dave. Because, as a whole hell of a lot of people here have pointed out, right here, Dave was in ye old shitter before said call came through to his cardboard box. Dave was supposedly broke and crying his ass off and begging for just one more shot at being in the band. What the fuck ever...This is the Roth Fucking Army. And to me that means two things: Roth first, Van Halen second.

You think he is going to hire Wolfy to play in the largest American hard rock show band on Earth if he was "untested'? He had only been jamming with Wolfy from day one!
Ed DOES have more smarts than that, Lou.Comment

Okay. I just watched the video portion of the interview. I am so happy for Ed, and Wolfgang. To me, they both looked extremely comfortable during that interview. I am not going to disect every word they spoke. To me they conveyed comfort and happiness. It makes me feel better about the Wolfgang replacing MA thing, and about the album and tour not blowing up because of conflict. I get the impression that Ed knows he has gotten a second chance. That he knows how lucky he is to have a great relationship with his Son, and that he not only appreciates the DLR era of VH, he is embracing it once again. I think all of these guys, even Dave, are really enjoying the band now. I don't think they ever enjoyed it like they are now. Yes, they had a great time in the old days, and partied like the rock stars they were. But now, they don't have to do the rock star portion of it. They can just go up there on that stage, and have a good time, just for the appreciation of the fans, and the music itself. I truly believe Wolfgang has made Ed, and maybe Al and Dave too, realize how classic and timeless that music really is. Not just to us hardcore people that have been there from the beginning, but to the people just discovering them, and even the people that have only heard VH played in sporting arenas during games. Hopefully they are feeling and enjoying the magic, like I always have. I think they are. From my perspective, none of this looks or feels like they are just going through the motions. That doesn't mean there isn't some sort of bullshit going on behind the scenes, but it does appear they are handling all that shit with more maturity now. How funny is it that a fucking 21 year old punk kid is bringing maturity to the band?
I think it is really cool that Wolfgang appreciates real rock music like AC/DC. He is like an old school rocker, in a 21 year old body!
I would love to ask Wolfgang more specific questions about what he thought when he discovered the old VH material. Obviously he recognized the magic. But I'd love to know more of his thoughts on it. I just find it extremely interesting that he embraced it so much. I'd also like to know if he has ever sat down and watched stuff like Oakland and the US Festival, and what his thoughts are on that stuff. Because, if we ever have a hope of getting official releases of those shows, I think Wolfgang will be behind it. Not for the money, but because he does know how magical that time was, even though he wasn't even there.
Wolfgang Van Halen has earned my respect. As a musician. As a singer on the harmonies. As the guy responsible for bringing the magic, and his Dad, back to life. Ed is a lucky man to have a Son like he has. He knows that...Comment
