Above is the only part of your post that I felt compelled to excerpt and comment on. I agree with you about the idiots on YouTube and elsewhere who have trashed the band and Dave for the effort they've given since last winter. VH has given us their best, and everyone should appreciate it much more than they seemingly have.
However, it's important to remember that for all of the "abuse" (either real or perceived) that Van Halen has taken from their "fans", there have certainly been many instances where the situation was reversed. Many of us here, who live and die with Roth/VH, have certainly implied or outright stated that VH is not totally blameless in bringing some "hate" down on themselves from time to time.
You don't need to do a lot of digging within this very website to find the most diehard Classic VH fans melting their keyboards about "fan abuse" at the hands of Van Halen. Impassioned and loqacious rants about the years of deafening silence, lack of information coming from "Howdy Doody Mountain", general disregard and disrespect for the fan base, and claims that Edward had morphed into nothing more than a flip-flop and sneaker shilling hack obsessed with "Frankenstripe lawsuits" litter the landscape here if you scratch just slightly below the surface.
Granted, all of that has been wiped away since the release of ADKOT and the tour. Eddie and Co. have shown everyone that they're still at or near the top of their games. Unfortunately, YouTube is just another outlet for hater cowards to spew their venom under the cover of internet anonymity.

Well, there's the whole "calm before the storm" that happened 2009-2011. It takes time to make an album! But I do agree with how venomous the fan's rants can be, I remeber back in early 2007 when they postponed the 07-08 tour because Eddie had to go to rehab... Someone on VHND posted "You know what Eddie, I don't care if you DIE in rehab. All you've done was throw a bone (Roth reunion) to your fans and take it back!" I don't think Eddie Van Halen is as much as an asshole as people said he was. He had a problem and a serious one back in the early 2000s.
