[QUOTE=chefcraig;1745329]Friend, imagine how cool this would have sounded with Alex's drums and Ed doing dive bombs all over the place.

Oh yeah, that would be cool for sure.

I remember first picking up that album without even knowing much about them other than "Free Ride ". Then upon hearing the first song thinking to myself, wow, this is the shit. It actually reminded me of Dave and VH in a way. Not completely similar musically , but just the overall voraciousness and raucous upbeat vibe.

Then later in the album, find out " Easy Street " is the same tune from Dave's mini album. L.O.L. I didn't know until the late '80' s. Then shortly afterwards picked up Roadwork. Heh, heh.

Can't let the bastards get you down.

I would bet 99.9% of the people who know who David Lee Roth is don't really know what he's all about. They quickly dismiss him as a spandexed heavy metal bozo from the 80's, so when the paparazzi take photos of him working as a NYC medic, they assume he's broke and needs the paycheck. Same kind of retarded thinking as Haggis writing "he looks gay". Simple minds produce simple conclusions.

Dave is one of those rare artists who realizes you can't shelter yourself in a comfortable cocoon and be inspired to make interesting art. Taylor Swift is only able to write songs about metrosexual hipster douchebags she's sucking and fucking because she chose to wrap herself in that cocoon and hide away from the real world. Spamborita can only pen tunes about space aliens, tequila, and his wife's pussy because he lives a sheltered existence.

Dave gets out there in the world and immerses himself neck-deep in the shit to inspire his art. The recent move to Tokyo is going to pay dividends on the next VH album (if there is one) because he's living in a different culture and getting a new perspective on the human condition and how to look at the world. How many artists really do this anymore? I heard Tina Turner is giving up her U.S. citizenship and moving to Switzerland but I'd bet that fucking old bag never leaves her mansion and won't learn jack shit about Swiss culture until her dying days. Same thing happened to Shania Twain and that dummy hasn't written a decent song in over 15 years.

Dave is about the closest thing we have left to a Renaissance Man. He writes songs, treats poor people in NYC, became a sheepdog master, flies helicopters, and practices swordsmanship with Shungendo monks. Compare that to somebody like Cabo Cunt and we easily see who's the true artist and who's a money-grubbing twat.

Clearly China Town was inspired by NYC's China Town. Dave is living on the lower east side smelling, hearing, and tasting what's in the air and his brain is composing the ideas for lyrics that tell a real story.

When the youth stopped rebelling and conformed to political correctness being sold by MTV, that was the death nail of the modern rockstar. There are no real rockstars under age 30. Name one. Good luck finding any.

Maybe the Somoli pirates are the last rockstars. They get high, break shit, scare people and make a lot of money doing it.

Haven't been here in a bit and to read this, i guess it's news. To me it seems from what Dave is saying about how he is still in contact with Al and talking about how he would love to do a real reunion tour with MA, it seems, brother Al and Dave are having a hard time convincing Ed to pull that trigger. Ed may want to sit back and wait for Wolf to get done with his side thing until revving up VH again for whatever and that probably has Al and Dave a bit restless especially after a successful tour like they had. It also could mean that Wolf is having a blast playing in a band that is more in line with his age and Ed is feeling the pressure to call up MA and offer him his old job back. I'm just glad i seen them when i did last year, and am pretty hopeful they will be doing something again in the future.

That was an awesome effort by Ed. His singular opus...

Yeah, Roadwork was...different, to say the least. There I was, after gobbling up TOCOAN and Shock Treatment ("Do like Me" still holds up as one of the coolest battles between a scat vocal and electric guitar, ever), fully expecting some more bluesy pop tunes when this jarring, screaming white soul revue comes blaring out of my speakers. Even worse, a thoroughly strung out Johnny Winter mumbles, stumbles and fumbles stoned way through "Rock And Roll Hoochie Koo," completely wrecking it. I hated it.

Today, I'd probably dig it, but for a 13 year old kid, it went straight over my head.

On a positive note, the covers of the Edgar Winter Group's albums made my father apoplectic with outrage. Alice Cooper and KISS had the same effect, yet I never had the balls to show him my Sabbath albums. Those damned things even scared the shit out of me!

I've said it before, I like starting with a topic of mutual interest and letting the conversation go where it will. Unfortunately lately it seems they all go down the same shithole.
