Yeah, I remember back when I was in Japan that the bands that would come over would complain that the Japanese crew would basically "take over"....

No idea how it was down under, but certainly a possibility that the normal VH crew was limited in what they were able to do.....

Who's to say (until if/when we hear something definite) Shelly wasn't just told to send them the video footage for the screens and THEY ran it, y'know? They (VH) totally could've been running on a skeleton crew for this one-off, not due to "going on the cheap" so much as the parameters of the deal itself...

Kinda dig how they all wore white shirts with the black vests. Shows some unity with the guys. Keeps Dave from getting to weird with his outfit & keeps Eddie from going out there with tore up Levis he has had on for 2 weeks straight. Nice middle ground.

Can anyone say if the stadium was full? It looks like only the field had people on it because the edges of the crowd there get kinda thin. But the 1 camera angle was from quite high up so maybe the stands were full? I hope so. I'd like to see them come back for more Aussie shows.

Yeah, noticed that too. At least they pulled off NOT doing it very subtle. But maybe Ed was thinking of the time constraints and was just trying to keep Dave streamlined so they could get in a full set of songs. Noticed they started in the song before he actually finished his little "lets Go!" "Hi everybody" opening thing. Like the band was gonna move and Dave had to keep up. Smart. If you let Dave manage the clock those fuckers would still be there talking about hookers, sheep dogs & karate.

Just had another listen, after plugging my computer to my hifi system - Wolf is mixed forward, but man how he delivers!
The band sounds tight, despite the quiproquo at the break - it takes their huge amount of experience to stay on track.
Anyway on my stereo the mix doesn't really sound bad.

Dave kept zen, at least visually, but his yelling "ONE BREAK COMIN' UUUUUUUUUUUP!!!!!!!!" suggests it pissed him a little.

Fwiw.. It was Dave, it was Van Halen, and I had a fucking ball. I won't be bitching too much about the sound when it all sinks in. I was on Ed's side and I guess I kinda got lucky in that regard.

I've seen/heard Unchained and Romeo from the same source and they both sound good to me. Bass is strong in the mix, but didn't overwhelm Dave or Ed to my ears. Dave has sounded good so far as well.

It kicks ass, despite the mix the band's on and Dave's got way better control of his voice, seems like whatever plagued him last time 'round is gone....no, it doesn't sound like the record, but he's hitting the notes he's going for, he's got some power, and is showing some serious control like I've never seen... dunno wtf some of those twitheads were talking about...
