I knew a chick who'd get all hot and bothered just hearing the song "Don't Tell Me" by Van Hagar. I'm not saying it was a "classic" song, but she did give a "classic" blow job...
Alex is one of rock's most underrated drummers.

I agree. If Alex wasn't playing drums in "Jump", but some over-glorified drummer did, it would've been totally different.Death

As for Alex not being good enough to be Neil's roadie, somehow I think you'd feel differently if a certain Dave was fronting the band. Ed and Al were both idolized while Dave fronted. When he left is when the hatred began....kinda bullshit if you ask me.
Wrong!!
The only reason alex's drums worked so key within VH is because EVH is a riffer. you never heard much rhythm guitar. it worked in VH context. him and Michael Anthony created a backdrop for EVH's showcase. but as a drummer..... he's aggressive. but not overly skilled.
and I wouldn't want a nei peart playing on it. drums are secondary in VH. neil peart and EVH would become fusion. I like rock.
U2 used the same concept believe it or not. The edge is not a strummer. A simplistic low end, accented by percussion. creates a rhthmic backdrop to the guitar.
Manu Katche' (peter gabriel) that's a drummer. Steve Gadd is a monster. (check out "50 ways to leave your lover" ignore everything else-listen to the drums and polyrhythmics) AVH doesn't have the finesse, imagination, or attention span of these guys.Last edited by pete; 08-04-2004, 08:09 PM.Comment

I have never claimed Alex was "legendary" by any means. I've actually gotten tired of his use of cymbals from time to time...but when recorded correctly a la WACF, he does sound phenomenal.
To me, that album not only represents the quentessential VH sound, but also represents a quentessential rock sound rarely captured on tape....
Although FW is my fave VH album.I like to pay close attention to the things I'll forget later...Comment
