One simple rule. You can use the questions below to get started or take this in any direction you so desire, as long as you leave it about Roth only.
1. We all want to meet him/see him again. If he were here live and in person, and you were only allowed one question, what would you ask him?
2. If Dave wanted to know why you like him, and you could only give him one reason, what would that be?
3. Have you actually met David Lee Roth? If so, did that change your opinion of him, and in what way?
4. David has always been a very vocal person, how honest do you think he is in his interviews and book?
5. What is your favorite David Lee Roth interview and why?
6. What do you see David doing next?
7. Here is one for the old timers. Did any of you ever see Mammoth or Red Ball Jets. (remember, only Roth comments allowed)
8. If you had to admit that Dave had ever fucked up in his life, what would you say was his biggest mistake?
9. If you could switch places with the Diamond one for one week, and one week only, would you, and what would you do for that week?
10. Whatever the hell else you want to talk about that has to do with *** you guessed it*** Diamond David Lee Roth.
1. How the fuck you doin'?
2. Do I have to state the obvious?
3. Nope, but I doubt it would change my opinion.
4. His book I think was very honest. Maybe a few stories were exaggerated, but with facts and events he had to be honest. If he lied, the sisters would have jumped at the chance of telling everyone he's a liar and it would of lost him a hell of a lot of respect.
5. Don't know.
6. Finishing his EMT training.
7. Not Me
8. Parting ways with Steve Vai.
9. Announce a tour, sign up to Roth Army and drink Jack Daniels.
10. Fucking great frontman. Saw him in Feb and he was fantastic.

Upon meeting Dave, I would, you know I'm not sure what I would do if I met Dave. There would be a thousand questions to ask him. And having to only pick one would be rough. Dave is the coolest guy ever. So, regardless of what I asked him, I would be satisified with any answer he gave me.Comment

Good interview with DAVE in a 1985 Rollingstone. Talked about growing up and his family some. DAVE has ALWAYS provided GREAT qoutes throughout his career. I'd like to buy him a drink and just HANGOUT.
As to WHY I like DAVE, its his "Belligerent enthusiasm and lust for life". Eventhough it's apparent that he is a thoughful, serious cat, he ALWAYS cracks me up and puts me in a ASS-KICKIN' mood!!!!

I would just tell him that I look at his autobio almost like a Zen book as I could open any page of it and get my mind blown by something he said in it.Comment

Went to the dress rehearsal for the ETAS tour. It was held at Hampton collisiem the night before the first show of the tour. Met dave years later around 95 while I was waiting to play a set at the continental in NYC. He came strolling down the side walk dressed much like he did at the Boston pops gig. Had to well dress ladies and some young dude following close behind. I was the only guy to recognize him as he appeared very un-dave like. He was wired . I jumped over and blocked his path to pay my respect best I could but didn't do it justice. He gave me a thankful nod with his trademark ear to ear phoney smile and shook my hand. That was a suprise. His hand was very limp and sweaty. I dont want to go there. He was a different person all together than the dude in Van Halen. He seemed to have been in some unfortunate transition. He still is the man in my book. Talk around town was he had good days and bad days. Oh yeah, I thought he would be taller.Comment

2. "Mr. Roth, the reason why I like your contribution to the history of music is that it blows everyone else who came after you away. Kinda like Technicolor did back in the 40's-50's. That plus the attitude you present on stage and off."
3. No.
4. This might seem a bit childish, but: The truth, the whole and nuthin' but.
5. March '04 issue of Classic Rock. Why? Well, it's contemporary.
6. Whatever the fuck he wants, man. I ain't no fortuneteller... :D
7. Can't answer that on account of my young age.
8. Getting involved with the Van Halens.
9. First day: Check out the cribs, call E/AVH. Second day to final day: go to Jamaica.
10. Whatever he's doin' now. That's why we're here, right? To watch in total awe has he boldly goes where no other rockstar has ever gone before.Last edited by Coyote; 08-15-2004, 07:00 AM.Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

6: Playing gigs, waiting, watching, getting his rightful royalties.
7: NOPE
8: Not keeping his voice in better shape when needed.
9: Exactly what I do already....
10: David Lee Roth was the best Frontman in 70s/80's Rock.

1. When he was going on his adventures with the Jungle Studs did he ever get in a situation that really scared him
2. From his music to his showmanship to the stories he tells he is larger than life. When I was a really fuckin shy 13 year old he gave me a hero to aspire to be like. It helped
3. No I have never met him, but I passed him on the sidewalk in Vancouver when he was recording ALAE......... My thought was that he is pretty hyper and damn the chicks he was with were HOT.
4. Very honest
5. This one that was in Metal Edge Mag years ago.
6. Rothfest! Hopefully something that will throw him back in the limelight. I hate seeing the VH's get so much attention everytime they fuckin fart while Dave puts out an album that I can't even find.
7.I ain't that old
8.He seemed to lose direction and drive for a while after ALAE......... Yer Filthy Mouth was a great realease........... but he just didn't seem to have it in him to really pursue it at the time. Then the world forgot about him.
9.Hmmmm.......... alot of what I do now only with a shitload more money.......
10. Hey - where is all the rest of Crazy From The Heat......... he said there were over a thousand pages that he was gonna release in another book!Comment

Interesting answers guys and gals. Some of you surprise me a little bit.
# 3 Meeting Dave changed my opinion of him a great deal. However, I was lucky in that when I met him, it was after a show, but not at the show, and there was no one else around, except his band, one friend of mine and a security guy. I think I got a very rare picture of who the Diamond One is. If I could have a second meeting with him in that context. It would totally rock. If I met him a second time and got a limp, sweaty handshake and a phoney smile, that would totally suck.Comment

Re: So, Lets Talk About Dave
GREAT THREAD ! ! !
1. We all want to meet him/see him again. If he were here live and in person, and you were only allowed one question, what would you ask him?
may I sing a tune with you?
2. If Dave wanted to know why you like him, and you could only give him one reason, what would that be?
thank you for being the inspiration back in the days that I can make my living from being on a stage now...and some rothisms I translated in german and used from time to time
3. Have you actually met David Lee Roth? If so, did that change your opinion of him, and in what way?
waited for him to sign my copy of EAAS on the airport and he came by bus...bad luck
4. David has always been a very vocal person, how honest do you think he is in his interviews and book?
I believe the core...even if some stories may be "a little bit left of center"
5. What is your favorite David Lee Roth interview and why?
impossible to answer...love them all!!!
6. What do you see David doing next?
I hope he's going to have some highlights like the boston pop thing but I guess he will just go somewhere out there with his band and play and be dave...at least he will just do what he wants
7. Here is one for the old timers. Did any of you ever see Mammoth or Red Ball Jets. (remember, only Roth comments allowed)
no, was just glad to see him two times life past VH
8. If you had to admit that Dave had ever fucked up in his life, what would you say was his biggest mistake?
producing skyscraper on his own...
9. If you could switch places with the Diamond one for one week, and one week only, would you, and what would you do for that week?
fuck your girlfriend...try some high kicks on sa***y ha**r, al** v*n ha***en, m****el an*****y and e**ie v*n h***len...(sorry couldn't resist) serious: I'd look for some musicians, good songwriters and arrangers and do an album
10. Whatever the hell else you want to talk about that has to do with *** you guessed it*** Diamond David Lee Roth.
I just hope he will be out there doing something, maybe a blues album, maybe a greatest hits album with big band arrangements, maybe another hard rock album...whatever it will be...I'll be there to listen and it will be good...and I hope I'll see him on stage againRoth Army Icon
