5. Ed took any shimmer off of a Dave reunion with VH by throwing together this Sham of a tour...and that's what it is...

You know what a reunion like this is all about? One with Dave...the way it should have been? It should have been a spectacle...it should have been BIGGER THAN KISS...when they returned full force (and before you fuckers shred me about how shitty KISS performed during that fucking performance and that tour...I'm not comparing the performance...VH obviously would have kicked their ass musically...)...

Van Halen was...WAS...a band that was universally respected as a band that would kick you in the face...kick you in the ball...then fuck your girlfriend while you were down...THEN...play a balls out concert for 2 hours that would make you want them to fuck your girlfriend again so you could hear the band 1 more time...

That's what we would have gotten in 1996...that's what we could have gotten in 2000...the new millenium...although perhaps slightly less...

even in 2002...it was there...but slightly less again...

Now what will it be?

ANOTHER VH reunion?...Yeah...people will buy that...sure...a lot of people will...

I'll always be bitter about '96. I can't believe Ed did that. I was so unbelievably happy, and I knew RIGHT AWAY what it was all about. When I heard the Cherone announcement, I thought to myself: "Look, Gene Simmons has a gigantic ego, and he's big enough to put on fucking kabuki make-up, get two washed-up alcoholic, drug-users back in his band and play nothing but old material. Eddie Van Halen is definitely up for the same challenge. He wants some of that." But Eddie had an edge over Gene...this was a reunion the whole world was waiting for. This was huge. This was the fixing of that dissatisfied feeling in millions of rock fans in 1985. It would have been bigger than KISS. And Roth really went out on a limb and realized that he should also be good about this. But all that was resolved was the idea that maybe Dave really was 100% right in leaving in 1985...because he was leaving behind some really shitty human beings. Do people really think the whole VH organization left with Dave just because he was the projected winner? Nope. It was also because he was the nicer guy.

Simple...Ed hates his fans. He's bitter. This whole David Lee Roth thing has contributed to destroying him over the past 20 years because nobody has allowed him to have a legacy in which Dave doesn't help rule it...few people really think of a Van Halen that was good without Dave. And that makes Ed not as big as some of his sales indicate. And this has hurt him greatly. And the Van Hagar years did a lot to fix this feeling...but when sales began to drop, when they realized how much Hagar really sucks (and they even cited this reason in '96, with complaints of poor melodies and lyrics and stage demeanor), they got Dave back...but they kicked him out again when they realized how much he had been missed. They kicked him out because Ed realized that people would be constantly talking about how much better the band is with a talent like Dave in it. They unconsciously tried to destroy the legacy of the original Van Halen.

It was a stupid, stupid move. It caused the band to lose a TON of its popularity. And from this they will never recover. And I don't think Dave could ever really get over it. He wants to rejoin, but only on his own terms. And I think deep down, he kinda dreads the idea too. Nobody knows Eddie Van Halen more than David Lee Roth...so the fucking sheep should stop trying to protect him, praise him...and shut the fuck up.

It's all over. I don't really think Dave is coming back. I was 100% happy in 1996 because I still blamed Dave a lot for what happened. But I don't believe that anymore. And my excitement is gone. And they've wasted 8 more years (already). It's over. Van Halen could have gone on to produce great music and have incredible tours in the late 90s...maybe a Millennium concert.

But it's all over.

POJO I wasnt insinuating anything or trying to put words in your mouth... I was just giving ya somethuing to think about. Keeping a dollar out of Eds pocket (via a Roth/Halen boycott) keeps a dollar out of Daves pocket too. Dave gets nothing from this site, burned cd's or boots so that isn't really support. I appreciate you guys sticking to your guns and you obviously have some bad blood toward Ed for very valid reasons, but if Ed and Dave can work through it and get past it, then who am I to hold a grudge? I'll be there putting a few bucks in both of their pockets!

well POJO, I am an Edhead... I dont agree with alot of what has happened or what Ed has done to himself or his family but that is not MY concern, that is up to him and his family. My only involvment is in his music and IMO one has nothing to do with the other. Sure there has been some bas decisions made but I always take the approach that there are two sides to every story and if I wasnt there to witness it, or to get both sides directly from the source, I cant be the judge.
I hope you have no ill will towards me. This is just a discussion. We just see it differently and thats cool.

Musicianship gets you signed...and personality makes you huge...

They made music...sure...even good music...not Roth music...but good music for the time...

but no personality...none...

Yep. I blamed Dave back then, but I was a little kid (literally). I don't blame him anymore. Furthermore, it's true...for the time, the band made good music in the late 80s. But that means, good late 80s music. The guitar playing was blander, but it had its moments, etc. But really...there's no comparison. It's like comparing WINGS with THE BEATLES. I mean, do you even bother?

Good comparison, huh? WINGS and THE BEATLES? It really is like that. McCartney losing Lennon was like Eddie losing Dave.

I'm sick of people thinking there's even room for debate. Joe Average knows Eddie's a good guitar player. But does he really know why? At the same time, everyone remembers what was amazing about Dave.
