Kidding aside.....it's not whether or not you get knocked down or make certain mistakes in life, we all do.

Isn't building character, how you pick yourself up and learn from your mistakes?

Daly reminds me of Hagar; pandering off another's platform.

Notice you didnt say "I've heard Golf is..." or "People say golf is..."

So when you make a statement like this, and then you're asked to defend/explain it, don't act so fucking put upon, alright?

took you 3 fucking pages to admit you had no clue what it meant....

My point is that this idea of atonement is absurd. The very idea that anyone wants to hear from you after you've wounded them by being a thoughtless asshole is stupid, because at this point they've more than likely moved on, have forgotten the incident or merely consider you a dick and not worth the time. So in addressing things in an attempt to make amends, the act only soothes the hurt or guilt of the schmuck that inflicted the pain in the first place. It solves nothing other than giving the guy apologizing the impression that he is somehow righting a wrong. The fact is, you can not un-ring a bell. Like you said, character comes from learning from your mistakes. Making a big show about doing so is ultimately pointless, as it assumes a need to draw attention to something that usually comes naturally to everybody else on the planet.

I never have been able to grasp the idea of integrity in golf, and I play. Prior to 9/11, golf announcers used to bandy words about like "courage" to define a player's tenacity in going for a tricky shot. Huh?

Integrity in golf is little more than an illusion that takes place within the given time period it takes to play, and it's still as phony as a three dollar bill. Ever notice how people can be just a little bit more decent around the holidays, particularly to strangers? The day after Christmas, everyone is right back to nearly committing homicide over situations in traffic.

Like I said, it's an illusion of grace and fair play for a world that doesn't see too much of either today. So is a movie. The difference being that people usually don't attempt to sustain the period of temporary disbelief after the fucking credits roll.

That is the history of golf and what many hold the perception to be.

And you are right for a mass of the golfer's it is a Daly type game that is why he can keep a name rotating. Though I do not follow his game and do not know how he is doing at this very time in his career.

However for another mass the game has a different reverence.

There is a huge difference in feel and experience between the practice rounds and the game rounds during the tourney at the National. Any one in theory, can obtain a practice round, while the game rounds are coveted by a patron list.

Ummm...John Daly was suspended from the PGA tour for six months last year. He was so out of it, he really didn't even know when it began.

Daly calls suspension a low point

John Daly smashed one tee shot off the top of a beer can during a pro-am. At another tournament, he returned from a rain delay with Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden as his caddie. And his most memorable photo this year came in an orange jail suit, eyes half-closed.

Daly said Wednesday that such unwelcome publicity is why the PGA Tour suspended him for six months.

The two-time major champion confirmed his suspension to The Associated Press, calling this the low point of an 18-year career during which he has made as much news off the course as he has with his prodigious game.

"Is it fair that I got suspended?" he said. "It's not fair in reality, but it's probably fair in perception."

Daly said he wanted to go public to let fans and tournaments know that he wasn't abandoning them by taking his game to the European tour. At least until the spring, he simply didn't have much of a choice.

"I'm not sure this is the smartest thing to do, but I'd rather be honest, especially with the fans," he said. "It's hard for me not to play on the West Coast. I love it out there."

PGA Tour spokesman Ty Votaw declined comment, even after seeing Daly's remarks, citing the tour's longtime policy of not discussing fines or suspensions.

This is the second time the tour has suspended Daly, along with at least two other times when he agreed to sit out the final few months of a season to get his life in order.

He has not played on the PGA Tour since he missed the cut Oct. 17 in Las Vegas. Ten days later, police in Winston-Salem, N.C., said he appeared intoxicated outside a Hooters restaurant, and Daly was taken to jail to sleep it off. That led to his photo in the orange jail suit, which became an Internet sensation.

Still trying to recover from various injuries, Daly made only five cuts in 17 starts on the tour, finishing 232nd on the money list. His world ranking has plunged to No. 736.

Daly isn't even sure when the suspension began, but he hopes it ends in May. He said PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem sent a letter to his agent, Bud Martin of SFX Sports, who passed along the news.

"Tim and his staff have to do what they do," Daly said. "Truly and honestly, I wish Tim would get to know the facts better before he makes a decision. I would love to sit down and have a nice talk with him, tell him what really happened. But perception is reality in the world, and sometimes they have to do what they have to do."

Sure, there are scoundrels with and without resources. Some newly resourced individuals are mindful enough to be able to select to be a scoundrel or not.
