Shows how lame and lazy Ed became after DAVE left. From what I've heard (I think he opens the live guitar solos with it). It pales in comparison to the "Mean Street" intro and to "Cathedral."
316 symbolizes the entire problem with VAN HAGAR to me. It's one of the most boring guitar solos in history. You have to ask yourself a question when hearing something by a band...if you hear it and didn't know the rest of the band's or player's work, would you be remotely interested in the track you're listening to? If the answer is no, the track is shite.
I've seen VAN GAY-GAR fans at the Links that claim 316 is his best solo. It's utterly fucking boring, with no immediacy...it's an old drunk, doing a shitty blues riff with no melodic value just because his fucking son is born. I hate that piece.
