    SEC. 1004. EFFECTIVE DATES.
    (a) IN GENERAL.—Except as provided for in subsection (b),
this subtitle (and the amendments made by this subtitle) shall
become effective for plan years beginning on or after the date
that is 6 months after the date of enactment of this Act

SEC. 1101. IMMEDIATE ACCESS TO INSURANCE FOR UNINSURED
    INDIVIDUALS WITH A PREEXISTING CONDITION.
    (a) IN GENERAL.—Not later than 90 days after the date of
enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall establish a temporary
high risk health insurance pool program to provide health insurance
coverage for eligible individuals during the period beginning on
the date on which such program is established and ending on
    January 1, 2014.

KB, Nitro Express is correct. I've heard from multiple news sources that there is some loophole in the bill/law that NOBODY, even children, with pre-existing conditions are entitled to insurance until 2014. It's something they are going to have to fix.

Sesh, I've done some research on the WHO rankings you continually use.

It's a ranking system that's a decade old and uses facts and figures much older than that. It takes into account quite a few variables that apply to one country and not another.

Most experts in international healthcare are quite embarrassed by it and wish it would quietly go away.

Now, I know the admin/insurance side of our healthcare system needs some work, but when it comes to the actual medical/medicine side of things, there is no place I'd rather be if I needed medical attention than a US hospital.

I've actually seen the inside of a few hospitals in Europe...no thank you very much!

You can't judge a country's healthcare just by it's VD clinics.

I wouldn't say its perfect for example France is top and personally I would hate the lack of privacy in French hospital - maybe it's a cultural thing.

I think a lot of what pushed the US so far down the poll was infant mortality and the number of people without proper access to healthcare.

I've been in French hospital...on business. That's the one I was referring to when I said "no thank you very much." Talk about dirty and unsanitary.

You're probably right about infant mortality and access to healthcare, though just about anyone can get basic treatment here, even without paying.

Most people that really need it can get Medicaid.

I suppose those foreclosures can be legit in some cases, but I also know most people are financially extended beyond their means and don't think of purchasing health insurance until it's too late.

Using their money on huge houses, nice cars, fishing boats, jet skis, hot tubs, and swimming pools is more important, of course. Why should they budget their own money for healthcare when they think Uncle Sam should do it?

Reid casts wrong vote on health care for second time

Gotta love the that this guy is a Majority Leader ... think Reid even read the bill?

Washington (CNN) -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid mistakenly called out "no" Thursday when asked for his vote on the health care reconciliation bill, setting the chamber howling with laughter.

Reid voted the wrong way when the clerk called for his vote, realized his error and quickly changed his vote to "yes."

"He did it again," someone said amid laughter.

Reid, who spent months persuading fellow senators to vote "yes" on President Obama's top domestic priority, made the same mistake December 24 when voting on the original health care bill.

His office said Reid made the gaffe because he was so focused on getting health care passed.

                    What's fueling health care rage?

The reconciliation measure, also known as the "fixes" bill, makes changes in the broader health care overhaul measure that Obama enacted Tuesday.

The Senate had to vote again on health care after Republicans forced two minor provisions involving student loan funding to be stripped from the bill. The final vote was 56-43 for approval, after which it was sent to the House, which also passed the measure.

The "fixes" bill now goes to Obama to be signed into law.

Whoops! ObamaCare doesn't cover pre-existing conditions after all, until 2014 | Washington Examiner

Whoops! ObamaCare doesn't cover pre-existing conditions after all, until 2014

ObamaCare will not protect children with pre-existing health conditions from being denied health coverage -- not until 2014. This despite endless talking points and promises to the contrary, the Associated Press reports:

Under the new law, insurance companies still would be able to refuse new coverage to children because of a pre-existing medical problem, said Karen Lightfoot, spokeswoman for the House Energy and Commerce Committee, one of the main congressional panels that wrote the bill Obama signed into law Tuesday...

Full protection for children would not come until 2014, said Kate Cyrul, a spokeswoman for the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, another panel that authored the legislation. That's the same year when insurance companies could no longer deny coverage to any person on account of health problems.

Obama's public statements have conveyed the impression that the new protections for kids were more sweeping and straightforward.

He hasn't just "conveyed the impression." He's said it outright, repeatedly. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., was saying it on television as recently as three hours ago. MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, while criticizing ObamaCare, was saying this morning that he's still glad it would allow his diabetic son to get insurance if he lost his job.

                          Sorry, but not so fast.

This, as Vice President Biden might say, is a big f***ing deal. It means that in their rush to pass the Senate version of ObamaCare on Christmas Eve, Democrats disarmed one of their main talking points in defense of the legislation for the rest of this year.

I've read both liberal and conservative sources on this. They both say the same thing.

I'm not a constitutional attorney. I'll take the word from those of both sides of the political aisle that are.

This is one aspect of this law that even Republicans agree with, among others.

It just needs to be fixed.

It does suggest not many people actually read this bill before voting, however. We already knew that.
