I think Van Halen needs to focus on it's strengths and record an instrumental album. Alex would probably get a little self-ingulgent but Ed should be able to put together 40 minutes or so of tunes. He could add some overdubs and get progressive. I was thinking that Mike would be a little scary but a nod to the past with a bad-ass 'Sunday Afternoon in the Park' jam would be cool.

Eddie should just sober and drop the Van Halen name and group entirely (even Alex) and form either a new band or gather together other legendary vets to form a super group for a one-off album. The Van Halen brand name has run its course. I still believe he has talent left and he needs to pursue musical goals that can be judged on its own merits rather than being seen as a second rate attempt to trump the glory work with David Lee Roth.
What ever Eddie does, I hope he doesn't copy the "Iommi" album debacle.Comment

As for Dave, he should actually release an album with new material. Stop doing covers! Dave YOU are the legend now, people should be covering you, not the other way around. Dave also needs to tour much more often. Look at Dio, he never had the fame Dave had, yet he's signed on with a good label (Sanctuary), releases material often, and performs in front of modest, yet extremely loyal crowds. There is a loyal and extremely rabid fan base here dying to hear from you. Release a new album, and follow it up with a double disk live cd with songs representing every album you've created.Comment

Totally great idea Vivian. I will give you a five star for that. The thing is if there is to be no reunion, no closure of Van Halen, he at least needs to let his fans go out knowing he has moved on...
I am not discrediting what he has done since leaving Van Halen, but he has always left that door open, and always played the classics, etc... Some new material with his current band is just the ticket.Comment

You guys are all right. Van Halen is washed up, but it's not Sammy's fault, it's Ed's. His drunken performances and his haggard looks have ruined the VH name.

Horrible and didn't chart.
He doesn't deliver live. Most went to get beer and piss during his "Eagles Fly" solo during the shows on this tour.

Do any of you remember Me Wise Magis and Can't Get This Stuff No More? There is life after Van Hagar! The BEST Van Halen has always been the original Van Halen. Don't let the Van Hagar tour fool you. There is ALWAY Magic when Ed and Dave join forces. I say bring these two back together, lock um in a room together and MAKE them put something together for us. THEN and only then can we REALLY answer this question.Comment
