Kids should be allowed to be kids! They should not have to bear the burdens of their parents problems.

Katy never actually got licensed. And yes, the foster care system does suck... and some really shitty people do get licenses for the wrong reasons. It would be lovely if all kids were given two sane, loving, healthy (mentally and physically) parents, and those parents didn't have baggage and habits and negative traits to pass on to their kids, but unfortunately, the world is not a perfect place. Along with the bad, there are some good ones too. I was a very good one (I know, matter of opinion, its okay if you don't share it) for ten years. Need references so I can post my opinion here on this public message board?

speaking of personal experiences, I have personally seen alcoholics in worse shape than Ed (I am pretty sure he is still in control of his bodily functions) sober up a fly right. And when/if they do, they are usually pretty remorseful for hurting those who have cared about them.

Unfortunately they have to hit rock bottom, and each alcoholic has a different bottom. If Ed is still drinking after Friday night, well, that wasn't his bottom.

He almost died from smoking and is still smoking... He's self destructive. He's been to rehab several times and has also tried natural remedies like gurus and meditatation... I don't know... I think he's seen plenty of bottoms... I'm sticking to it ain't gonna happen. I've been wrong before.

I don't know enough about you to have an opinion either way. My only concern was the post that kids should see the good the bad and the ugly. I dont agree with that. The other thing is that no one TRULY knows the love of a child, until you have had one of your OWN. You may want to disagree with me but you can't, you have no way of knowing. When you have a child of your own, there is nothing like it, and you want to shelter it from the BAD and the UGLY at any cost!

I understand you're reasoning, and when my OWN CHILDREN were that young, I may have even felt the same way. The problem with glass houses is when they shatter, its a bitch.

Kind of like when a two year old asks where babies come from is not an appropriate time to break out the porno videos.. but there will come a time when that two year old isn't two anymore and knows the whole truth. Its just easier if the truth comes a little at a time, and in a manner they are able to deal with... and preferably before they are 16 and expecting a child of their own.

I feel the same about the alcoholic situation... don't wait till the kid is a raging drunk before you say okay, "heres a pic of daddy...he has a disease".
