Rap is the DUMBEST thing mankind ever considered to be an art form or "music".....it is the EPITOME of the kind of commercialism that allows talentless FUCKS to run around with tons of money. It is the modern-day clown act, only there's less money in being an actual clown. ANY nitwit can make it in the "RAP" genre.....and I CHALLENGE any lover of rap to prove to me I'm wrong. Our society has been DUMBED DOWN into liking rap.......force-fed since the dawn of MTV and politically hypnotized into believing that we are evil and racist if we don't like it. RAP is the scourge of the music industry and our society.....we have been forced into a guilt trip that says we must accept rap regardless of how talentless and moronic and often times socially negative it's message is. I am firmly against any music that is done merely to make ANY kind of political statement. Music should be fun, non-serious and enjoyable.....it shouldn't incite voilence or be used to make statements. There are plenty of other ways to make statements that are non-violent and not cowardly.

Well, sorry man, and you're right, an open mind is important of course, but this is one of my passions regarding music since I am a musician and Rap had it's rise in popularity when I was bustin my balls to make it somewhere. And it's not that I have a grudge so much as my eyes see it for what it is, it's politically motivated, charged, and supported, and it truly doesn't take talent to do it.Originally posted by Rikk

I will say this however, I love James Brown, I love funk, jazz, blues, country, pop, metal, punk (don't really dig ska but I don't dislike it either)......anything that actually has musical structure and is played for fun. I liked Rap back in the seventies when there was still musicianship and melody in it and it was performed with musical ability and it wasn't just done as a quick way to fame and fortune and making a political statement......it was actually a "culture" of music back then, it had a good personality. In the 80's it's personality changed and went downhill.
Let's face it, Van Halen worked their asses off playing live in the club scene for many years before they made it......they were their own managers, publicists, and marketting team all that time, not to mention structuring the band. Nowadays, sadly, all you need is a few scratches and either a hot bootie and a beat or a "crew"..........hell you don't even need any of that.......the music industry makes anyone they choose into a star simply by force-feeding us.
