See, I've been finding my musical tastes expanding rather than closing as my twenties go on. I am now listening to more garage music, more hardcore punk, jungle...all sorts of shit I wouldn't pay as much attention to ten years ago. But through it all, through the far less amount of classic rock that I listen to, I still listen to the Van Halen.

I am too finicky now, I listen to very little. I don't even listen to VH very much anymore. I can't name the last CD I bought. No new music gets me excited, it's the same manufactured crap over and over. Probably old age setting in and stubborness.

Yeah bro, but the fun for me is not discovering music that was newly recorded. It's finding older shit that's more obscure that I wouldn't have listened to before. I mean CDs that are five or ten years old. I even got hardcore into THE STOOGES the last few years. Their FUN HOUSE record is among my favorite albums now. (RAW POWER is also a masterpiece.) I've also been listening to the DEAD BOYS, JOHNNY THUNDERS, and a lot of that other garage stuff. It's just a sound that really gets me up in the morning during the drive.

You know, nobody remembers that album. I personally liked it. It wasn't necessarily their versions that were the reason it was great to me but because it made me get into so many great artists, including the DEAD BOYS and T.REX and THE DAMNED. That sound has just grown on me. I guess part of the reason I love original VH so much is because they are almost the ultimate garage band.

You can thank Ted Templeman for realizing the strength of VH was keeping that raw sound, and not manufacturing it like Gene Simmons wanted to.

The Spaghetti Incident was decent, but I guess I just felt it was the end of the line for GNR, which it was.
