When Dave strains, I don't think he sounds like Dave. So it ain't that recognizable to me right off, no. If you don't want to hear the Dave voice argument, then fine, change the channel. But it's valid. Saying Ed has lost a step is valid too.

I can't stand the Stones, so I'm the wrong person to ask about what Jagger sounds like. I never thought he sounded good, and they were fucking laughable when I saw them with GNR at the LA Coliseum in '89. So bad example for me. But his voice is recognizable, I give him that much.

I don't give two fucks about Sammy's voice. Yes his voice is weaker now, but I don't even care. I never liked his voice to begin with, I just learned to deal with it, because I enjoyed listening to Ed the musician.

I'm with you man, the rivalry is good. But don't lump me in with the Sam-tards, I have nothing in common with them, except my favorite musician chooses to play with the guy and not Dave. You can lump me in with "I will listen to Eddie no matter what and somehow figure out a way to enjoy" it club though. That I admit I am in.

that's something I can follow again...but again...listening to the japan boots makes me wonder how you come up with the idea that dave has lost too much of his voice to sing classic VH stuff...

I don't think he's lost too much to sing the VH stuff, I just think he sings the blusier VH stuff better. It's his fucking right to sing what he wants, who am I to say if he can or can't. If he's having fun and the fans are enjoying, more power to him. I'm glad to see he's still up for doing it. And if he's back in VH, I'm the first one in line, he can sing HFT however the fuck he wants.

You are condescending all right, but I assure you it's not to my "lack-of" intelligence. At least I'm smart enough not to subsidize a half-assed Van (Hagar) in hopes that Eddie has a good night. It's not just a case of whose vocals are on the songs so who cares. Eddie can't write anything worth listening to as long as he's working with a guy who isn't up to the task. If Eddie can't work with Dave for personal reasons then for Christ's sake he should work with someone else! Why not do a Santana and work with various singers who will challenge him and be allowed to give their own creativity to the process? But don't waste year after year with an uncreative try-hard like Sammy.

Van Hagar's best album was 5150 and most, if not all of that music, was already written before Sammy came along. Sammy just doesn't have a clue and the brothers want total control in the studio. The end result is music that sounds like it's off a production line. No magic, no spark.
