Anybody thinking that Van Halen would/might get inducted into the RNRHOF a few years back couldn't rightfully fool themselves about whether or not Hagar would show up and be inducted as well.
He was obviously going to be there, like it or not.
Case in point - Matt White mentioned Black Sabbath being inducted into the RNRHOF, but the only ones present were classic Sabbath (Ozzy lineup). Ronnie James Dio had just as much right to be there as Ozzy did. Because he had decency and respect enough of the original lineup not to detract from that, he didn't show up for it. Even touring this summer with Tony and Geezer and Vinny, that band has EVERY bit as much right to bill itself as Black Sabbath as an Ozzy fronted lineup would. They're not, because (Ronnie said it), after the RNRHOF induction of classic Black Sabbath, anything else billing itself as Black Sabbath would seem out of place or inaccurate.
Does Sammy Hagar have the same amount of decency as Ronnie Dio? Does he respect the classic lineup of Van Halen as much as Ronnie respects the classic lineup of Black Sabbath? Of course he doesn't, but Hagar lives in a fantasy world in regards to his own self importance to the musical industry and rock 'n' roll in general, so this should come as no surprise to anybody.
Regardless of whether or not Sammy's giving Dave "props", Sammy's base self-opinion is that he is THE face of Van Halen and always will be the #1 singer for the band. Vin has argued that Van Halen's post-Dave success rode pretty much entirely on Eddie's fans and the curious public hoping for a glimpse of the past when each album was released ("CVH paved the way"). Hagar's importance to any of Van Halen's post-Dave success is arguable...any other singer probably would have done just as well; Sammy just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
Seriously, does anyone have the ability to think that Sammy's solo album of 1994 would have went #1? Does anybody think that Sammy's tour of 1994 would have grossed what the "Balance" tour grossed? - IF VAN HALEN HAD NEVER HAPPENED FOR HIM?
Hagar's career would have been over by 1987 or 1988 - 1989 at the VERY latest. Metallica...Guns 'n' Roses...Nirvana...Alice in Chains...Pearl Jam...Soundgarden...musically he would have been curb-stomped by the competition. If Van Halen had never happened for him, at the very BEST he'd be opening for Eddie Money to 40 people a night these days on some forgotten rockers of the 80s/"Whatever Happened To This Guy?" minor-footnote-in-rock-history tour packages. Five songs a night and the highlight of the evening would be "I Can't Drive 55"...a song more notable for it's video than it's actual SONG CONTENT...which is admittedly rather pathetic, when you get right down to it.
Anyway -
None of this should come as any surprise to anybody here. Is it bullshit that Hagar's going in? Sure, but it's a reality. Sam's going to be there. It's not right, he doesn't belong there with the original lineup (which is, in reality, what's actually being inducted - the "Van Halen I" band), but he's going to be there anyway.
It's not that big of a deal. The REAL Van Halen fans know EXACTLY where Sammy fits into the larger scheme of things.
Sammy's the guy who got lucky in 1985. Several other people could have been the same guy, and would have had the same amount of success and recognition.
Sam's got no foot to stand on, so let him hop as he sees fit. Honestly, I find it vaguely amusing in an abstract way.
Should prove fun to see how the night pans out...Twistin' by the pool.Comment

Who gives a fuck if spammys there or not, as long as CVH can work the stage again without it blowing up like in "96". All eye's will be on Dave and CVH so I could care less what spam does. If the RRHF wants him then whatever. Let that fucker see up close and personal who the crowd's really there for. As long as this helps get the CVH reunion movin along, I'll take it.
That said, I won't get my hopes up till I see them get past the first tour date. On second thought make that the first few dates.[Comment

That's it.
Van HALEN is timeless -- its the type of music and songs you want to hear again and again.
Everyone loves to see the Hot For Teacher vid -- classic! Does anyone want to see the vid for "Right Now"??? BLAH! No! That'll just make them think of Crystal Pepsi again.
