No, we're 8... we're 10 when we smoke our first joint.

I can't believe this bullshit discussion on here! My son is now an adult, but if he was a kid you bet your ass I'd be bringing him! So, he might be exposed to pot?? That's not really an issue for me. I'd be more concerned about the drunks than people lighting up a doob. Mind you, this is Canada, and our opinions on weed is a LOT different down there.

Hell, up here if you called the appropriate authority because someone was smoking a joint in a concert, they'd laugh at you.

It used to be that way here untill the mothers for "my child is more important than common sense." Formed a lobby and beat thier congressman husbands to a pussyfied pulp.

I see these women with thier 3000.00$ strollers walking the child -IN THE STREET!!- cause the sidewalk has bumps, all over the place around here.No BS.

Nancy Regan fukked it all up.

I do feel as mentioned above that some people use thier children as a weapon.

Thank goodness there are some who think with a rational way.

      Around here not so many.

Van Halen has always been about the party. They are considered the ultimate party band. By many, they are considered the ultimate party band of all-time. Don't we all despise Van Hagar for stripping the band of this title?

Everybody who was there during the 'heyday' years is older now, including the band, & many have kids. Times have obviously changed.

Does that mean this is no longer the 'ultimate' party show from the ultimate party band? Is this now the PG-13 show? No pot smoking because of the pre-teens?

Does the band have a responsibility to tone it down for the kiddies in the audience as well?

Most anybody who considers going to this show knows what a rock concert is all about. If your child can not comprehend what is going on around them, they should not be there.

Look at the themes of the songs:

        Runnin With The Devil
        Hot For Teacher
        Aint Talkin Bout Love
        Everybody Wants Some
        Girl Gone Bad

While it's not as blatant as some of today's music, this is still adult oriented stuff.

I judge each concert individually before making a decision on whether my child can go or not & my 10 y/o child will have to miss this one.

          What a load of bullshit...

Don't want to expose the kids to all this adult shit... right LMAO!!

What exactly "adult" is going to be going on at a 2007 VH concert that anyone would need to be concerned about bringing their children.

Smokin weed... yeah right. Indoor arenas that shit don't happen. They'll throw your ass out for sparkin a Marlboro. Boobs flashing... yeah right saggy 40 something boobs... well maybe that's bad for the kids.

Look there's far worse shit kids will see on TV any day than what will be going on at a VH show. This ain't QzzFest either. Core demographics for this band is 30-50's. Not exactly a wild crowd anymore.

If anything our kids should experience what the real rock is all about instead of some pussy pop shit or poser crap rock. Kids need a proper upbringing and rock'n'roll edumacation!!

Bottom line: I'm going to have fun at the show, whatever that means to me, and I will NOT have that diminished. You've gotta do what you gotta, as do I, when you do what you gotta do.
Look, I don't subscribe to the "it's for the kid's" bullshit. I'm tired of losing freedoms "in the name of the children". You had 'em, they're your problem and yours alone! Parents have this fucked-up sense of entitlement and just tell the world "make way for my brats". No, I refuse to make way for your kids and if you try to make me it's going to get ugly, with a certain quickness. That's just all there is to it, no more arguing or anything else, just action. Isn't it bad enough that I'm blackmailed into paying for your little monsters at least once a year?

PS> Two of my buds are going with me, both "partiers". One has a 7 year-old and the other has a 7 YO and a 5 YO. BOTH said there's no way they'd take them to ANY rock concert, whether they want to or not. Then again, my friends have some common sense. :D

If your kids kick ass and you want to be a cool parent, then why not take em to the Van Halen concert? Say your son had a row with the school bully; and your son defeated, and humiliated the dumb bastard. What better way to celebrate then to give him one of your Playboy Mags (or let him have some fun with a hot chick you know) and a Van Halen concert! :D

What freedoms do you lose if I show up at a concert with my kids? These venues don't have asshole filters so you're safe there!!

Who would anyone ask you to make way for their kids? Well I guess if you're 350 lb tub of lard people would have trouble manuevering around your fat ass with a shadow that weighs 150 lbs. Oh and what are you going to do beat up some 12 year old because she said excuse me sir??

What exactly do you pay for my children? I probably pay more in taxes annually than you make...

5 or 7 yr olds may not be a good age to take to a concert. Depends on the kids. Nothing wrong with taking your teenagers though.

Sparkie, you are my new best friend on the internet. Everything you have been saying in this thread has in my opinion spot on.

Here is my take on MY son and concerts:

I wanted to 'wean' my son into the whole concert experience and the first concert I took him to was Rascall Flatts (he was either 8 or 9, and it was at a Casino showroom). He met the band, got autographs, the whole thing. He thought this was the 'normal' thing that happens at every concert.

My son LOVES Van Halen, Roth, and was brought up with 80's heavy metal bands. He went to Sam and Dave, he went to Van Hagar, and I would love to take him to see Ed, Dave, Al, and Wolfie. He's 14 years old, responsible, and just wants to rock out with the rest of the crowd.

I am a responsible parent in this day and age, and YES I am a friend to my kid as well. You can be both, you just have to be able to manage both.

Most people who post on this board are all in their 30's and 40's, and even some in their 50's. We want to share in this monumental time when the band that we so idolized back in our youth, comes back to life with our children.

I'm taking my 14 year old son, not my 10 year old daughter. I know who can handle what. I'll take my 10 year old to Hannah Montana. My 14 year old is my concert buddy. Don't like it? I could give two fucks. At the end of the concert I just witnessed Van Halen make my day with one of my best friends.

We DO have a right to go to the concert, as we DID pay for the tickets. Just as you did.

As Sparkie says, a good parent knows when junior is ready....Juniors ready, so is his Mom, and it is about fucking time Van Halen! I was getting worried I would have to take my Grandchildren to the damn event!! :p

I try like hell to keep things all fluffy bunnies and pink daisies. But brutal truth smacks me in the ass all the time.
