Here is my take on MY son and concerts:

I wanted to 'wean' my son into the whole concert experience and the first concert I took him to was Rascall Flatts (he was either 8 or 9, and it was at a Casino showroom). He met the band, got autographs, the whole thing. He thought this was the 'normal' thing that happens at every concert.

My son LOVES Van Halen, Roth, and was brought up with 80's heavy metal bands. He went to Sam and Dave, he went to Van Hagar, and I would love to take him to see Ed, Dave, Al, and Wolfie. He's 14 years old, responsible, and just wants to rock out with the rest of the crowd.

I am a responsible parent in this day and age, and YES I am a friend to my kid as well. You can be both, you just have to be able to manage both.

Most people who post on this board are all in their 30's and 40's, and even some in their 50's. We want to share in this monumental time when the band that we so idolized back in our youth, comes back to life with our children.

I'm taking my 14 year old son, not my 10 year old daughter. I know who can handle what. I'll take my 10 year old to Hannah Montana. My 14 year old is my concert buddy. Don't like it? I could give two fucks. At the end of the concert I just witnessed Van Halen make my day with one of my best friends.

We DO have a right to go to the concert, as we DID pay for the tickets. Just as you did.

As Sparkie says, a good parent knows when junior is ready....Juniors ready, so is his Mom, and it is about fucking time Van Halen! I was getting worried I would have to take my Grandchildren to the damn event!! :p
Thanks, SQ! I can't understand the mindset of those who think somebody can't be a responsible mom (or dad) and best friend at the same time. I friggin' love it. There's no better way in the world to stay young. Plus, those of us who choose to be both have a far better chance of knowing what's going on in the lives of our kids. In this day and age that is extremely important. I was the envy of all the kids back in the day cuz I had such a cool mom, and to this day we are still best friends.

I'm wise enough to know my girl ain't ready for a rock 'n' roll show just yet, but it won't be long. And the jerk who thinks her presence at a show is somehow infringing on his right to a good time can fuck right off.

I'm sorry I had to say this, but you are the reason people have an image of Van Halen fans as mullet-headed, drunken trailer trash. There are better ways to go about discussing kids at a VH concert. And if this is indeed the behaviour that you would display at the show, I hope security takes your ass away before the first note of VH so all the deserving people can witness rock history in peace.

I was 12 at my first concert. I was at an ampitheatre seeing Foreignor and Journey. I know, not the best. Apparently, there was a couple having sex 2 feet from me right there in the grass. Despite the fact that in the scheme of things, this show was mediocre at best, I never saw them. I was mesmorized by the rock show another 500 feet in front of them. And this was at an age where I would have loved to have witnessed real live sex in front of my young blue eyes. As it was, I was sneaking porno at around that age. But if I had seen it, it wouldn't have scarred me, nor would I have bothered to watch it for more than 30 seconds. Neal Schon was there playing guitar; what did I care about some chick with her loser boyfriend?

Haha, just goes to show how wrong one can be. Status has nothing to do with this. I'd lay real money that I wear nicer clothes than you, live in a nicer house than you, drive a nicer car than you and there's a pretty good chance I make more money than you do. It's the underlying principle of this whole thing that actually does anger me to near violence. I chose not to have kids 'cause I didn't want any of the hassles that go along with them, so my life should be "seamless" where rugrats are concerned, they shouldn't affect me in the least. How selfish is it for someone to make the concious decision to have kids and then promptly make it my problem? I don't think so....
Have nice day, man, woman, whatever.:D

PS> With any luck, you won't be there to see suckurity do anything. With any luck, your kid (and you) will be turned away at the gate, since the tickets do say "Adult" on them. Hahahahaha......:p

PPS> The bottom line here is that I can't stand "do gooders", people who need to be into other's business. I don't have an issue with older kids at the show, but don't bring your kid and then tell me what not to do in front of them. Look, your kids are probably going to see/hear a lot worse things at the show than someone sneaking a toke. As long as someone is discrete about it I don't see the problem, even if you're a Nancy Reagan type.

Oh, I'm sorry. I had no idea. In that case allow me to just kneel down a second here and suck your dick.

So you say you have a nice house, etc. This does not make you not trailer trash.

They aren't your problem. Nobody is going to go, "Hey asshole, watch my kid for me."

Sorry, I don't have kids. But I do hope, just for you, that there will be a firing squad there ready to execute any fan that tries to get in that doesn' fit a certain criteria, mainly 40-years-old, dumbass, selfish, and pothead.

Precisely. Don't go assholishly confronting someone who has there kids there because they have kids there. Mind your own business. Besides, if you don't think just about ANYBODY could take down a pushing-40, drunk, high guy, you are sadly mistaken.

Now, this is Dave and Ed together on the same stage making music for the first time in 23 years. If you're going there to be an asshole and make it less enjoyable for others of any age, don't come. This is not a Slayer concert. Some of us would like to see this.

This is why people think Americans are so arrogant. Just because you have all of those “nicer” accessories in life that don’t mean you are a better person than anybody around here. Pull your head out of your ass, because all that money of yours can’t buy you humility. And you’re definitely lacking it. It seems to me that you’re building your foundation on sand. You should change your favorite Rothism to “money can’t buy you happiness, but it can’t buy you a yacht and pull up right next to it.” You should get credit for not having kids though, because this world doesn’t need any more selfish people.

Quite right, ones that want to (nerd voice on) "alert the proper authorities" (nerd voice off) when someone does something to offend Jr. Woman, FUCK JR! hahahahaha!
No, my socioeconomic status really doesn't have anyting to do with this, which is why I don't understand why it was brought up in the first place.
BTW, I seldom drink, so the "drunk 40 YO" thing just flat doesn't apply to me. Just don't mess with me and I won't mess with you. Just keep in mind though, "light one up" has more than one definition for me.
I'm out, don't forget to take your Geritol tonight. :p:p:p

I would love for my son to be old enough for us bing him.

Although... here at the MTL Bell Center, whenever there is a Rock concert, you have to cut the smoke off with a knife in order to see something 2 feet ahead... I never complained about that :p eaven if my throat hurts for a day or 2 afterwards...

I don't mean 12 year-olds, I mean little kids. I personally think this is a bad idea for everyone involved and would like to politely ask VH fans who are parents to please not bring the kids this time. Van Halen is not family oriented entertainment.

This has been a public service message.
No shit. It would be like my parents taking me to see Don Rickles or Joan Rivers in Las Vegas when I was a kid. I was left at the hotel with my older sister while mom and dad listened to the dirty jokes.

They did take us to see the Osmonds and Elvis but both acts were clean.

My real motive of going to concerts as a teenager was to enjoy the forbidden fruits and rebel. Smoke some cheeba and do some drinking. Hook up with girls. The joy was girls would go down in their car and the guys would go down in their car and we would hook up in each other's motel rooms.

I'll never forget being in this sleezy motel called the Se Rancho and everyone in the room was getting fucked. Crazy times. That's what it was all about.

No kids don't belong. LOL! I was so wasted at most VH shows I don't remember half of them. LOL!

I'll tell you something I'm sick and tired of...people taking their whiny fucking kids everywhere. I go to a restaurant, I have to deal with a kid crying and screeching in my ear. I went to a movie the other day (R, of course) and there was a 2 year old kid crying. Or if they're not crying, they're running around unsupervised like my fucking space is their playground.

What the fuck? When you decided to have kids, you gave up the ability to go out whenever you want. People shouldn't have to put up with your kid that you refuse to raise.

Show a little fucking consideration for the rest of the world, you classless assholes. Stay home with your crying kid, douche.
