The internet is just a gossip machine. Somebody somewhere says something vaguely interesting and before you know it, it is everywhere. The likes of Rolling Stone, which used to employ fact-checkers (! see Almost Famous, etc) now just repeats the same gossip that sprouts up on Blabbermouth - because it is hot gossip. Not because it there is any veracity in the story.

Never mind that no-one does any fact-checking anymore, what I wonder now is whether or not there was any real announcement from Warner Chappell to begin with? Blabbermouth quoted some person, but did not name that person. There's nothing on the news section of the Warner Chappell website about this for instance. I mean, they do have - like - a news section that contains just such announcements about other songwriters ...

If you listen closely to the vinyl album, with headphones cranked all the way up...just before Eds tapping part in the 2nd half you can hear Dave in the background suck clear a big bowl. It is very subtle.

And I hate to be an old fart, but the album titled 'MCMLXXXIV/1984', which was recorded between April and Sept/Oct 1983, was most definitely released in 1983. I recall personally buying it in late Dec., 1983.

By any measure I would say that makes it a 1983 album.
