The artist who tweeted that she is in the studio with John Shanks is Diana Vickers, a British girl. According to her website and fan forums, she appears to have been in LA for at least 2-3 weeks working on a new album with Shanks.
So the album is either done or it's on hold for whatever reason.
Then again, Sammy Hagar did tell MTV a few days ago he had heard on the grapevine that "they have already fired one producer."Last edited by Halen High; 03-28-2011, 06:04 AM.Comment

If it was done he would surely have tweeted VH album finished.
Also lots of people have plain asked him and he has not answered - usual VH bullshit.Comment

After the excitement of hearing they are in the studio a couple of months ago, I think it's time to forget these guys for a while and check out my other favourite bands.Last edited by Halen High; 03-28-2011, 07:00 AM.Comment

Yep - it's not looking good. The VHND ignores all requests from fans for an update (because all they have is bad news and they are waiting to have something positive to report), and Shanks is now working with someone else and refusing to talk about VH. I think it's all on hold......again.
OK, the producer is onto another project. So what? Perhaps the band has completed the basic tracks, and possibly this was the only reason he was hired: to help the band get the foundation of the album done. Next, you have Hagar's comments, made by a guy that admits he is out of the loop with what is going on. Again, so what? The fact is, you have to take any statement made by anyone associated with this band with a grain of salt. What did Eddie Van Halen say was going on in 2009 when cornered outside a restaurant? That the group was rehearsing for a (then) tour. Uh-huh. That worked out. Roth is questioned at a dog show about the group, and politely says something is in the works in a vague manner. The real truth is more than likely that (other than Hagar, who is selling a book) these guys are asked questions in a context far removed from their comfort zone, and have to ad lib some quick statements in order to get people off their backs. I mean really, how would you feel coming out of a diner (with food in your teeth) or attend somebody's canine festival and some dork shoves a camera phone in your face? Expedience would rule whatever comments were made, so why people put would so much stock in them is simply absurd.
Most of us have waited decades for these bozos to get their collective shit together. Waiting a few months more isn't going to kill anyone, although you get that general impression because of the overwhelming amount of instant gratification people have become used to thanks in no small part to technology. Having Charlie Sheen's latest brainstorming insights at your fingertips 24/7 isn't exactly a good thing to begin with, so relax and apply something that is relatively old-school in it's nature: Grow up, have some patience and don't automatically assume the sky is falling merely because you can't see results instantly or via next day air.

Yeah, and who created that scenario? The fans. True, Edward Van Halen must shoulder the responsibility for not creating anything worthwhile in years and by his erratic public behavior, but it was the fan's expectations of him that have turned sideways into sheer frustration. OK, it's a chicken or the egg sort of argument, saying VH created that expectation in the first place, but you can't have one without the other. And his comments over the years ("ten albums in the can", ect) have only raised that expectation. Nor has his concept of selling everything under the sun except new music helped matters. But the point is, if you find yourself wringing your hands or breaking out in a cold sweat about anything Van Halen might be doing at this late stage of the game, you are a dimwit, and you only have yourself to blame for that.

That's a bit of a leap. Do you know this for a fact, or is it mere supposition? Essentially, you are assuming the VHND actually knows what is going on, when it is more probable that all they have (like everyone else) is a series rumors at this point, and printing them would be a diservice. The virtual "cone of silence" around the band is laughable and at the same time a pain in the ass for anyone wishing to follow their endeavors, but come on. Look, I'm not exactly an eternal optimist either given the not-so-glorious output of the group over the last 15 years, but making guesses about what is going on doesn't have to be negative.
