I live in NYC and while I wouldn't say I'm in the music business I do a lot of work with people that are and I have been told that Irving Azoff is about to launch a record label. I'm wondering if this is the hold up as having Van Halen on his roster would be a brilliant way to kick it offComment

Interesting. That would be an awesome way to start off a new label. When signing other bands one of the first things they want to know is who else is on the label. Being able to say Van Halen is a huge draw.“Great losses often bring only a numb shock. To truly plunge a victim into misery, you must overwhelm him with many small sufferings.”Comment

Man, it would be something else if VH released it's CD on 9/27. Zero hype for long awaited great new music vs. ridiculous hype for a glorified Hagar solo album. That would be the ultimate bitch slap. I promise not to hold my breathe.Comment

I fear that by the time it is shopped and packaged it may well be the spring. If i was VH i would start touring prior to the release date to drum up anticipation for the record.RIDE TO LIVE, LIVE TO RIDE

I'm fully expecting a spring release at this point... and a summer tour to go with it. I suppose they could tour South America, or maybe some festivals in Europe to get ready to entertain me this summer.Originally posted by wiseguyThat shit will welcome you in the morning and pour the milk in your count chocula for ya.Comment

I read a lot of comments by nervous fans. I can't say I'm nervous remotely.
First off, there's so much going on in life right now that I'm not the same person I was in 1996 (or 2000, for that matter). My happiness is not riding on Van Halen releasing a new album. That said, I'm excited.
Second, there's no way this is not happening at this point. Every fucking piece of evidence is pointing toward this being a reality. The album is fucking done. It's mixed. Probably mastered by now. If indeed they are even polishing off a few older songs they didn't use back in the day (there's a ton of great stuff off the demo tapes they should have released back in the late 70's/early 80's, like PUT OUT THE LIGHTS, SHE'S THE WOMAN, BIG TROUBLE, GET THE SHOW ON THE ROAD), then the album will only feel that much more legitimate.
I'm psyched. But I agree with VAiN that we probably won't see anything 'til Spring. The delay is annoying, but so what? The only downside is seeing a couple of great Rothtards in our midst (MAX, BLONDGIRL) pass away before this shit gets released. It would have been nice if Eddie Psycho Van Halen hadn't waited this fucking long to make this happen.
New Van Halen. I'm sure it will be worth the wait. It's Dave, for Christ's sakes.

Y'know what? I've refrained from posting for awhile because:
1. I'm sick of the rumor-mongering....especially by the knuckleheads who have been members of this site for years but only come out of the woodwork when something is "cooking" in Van Halen land. Release dates, mixing dates, trouble with Dave's vocals, blah, blah, FUCKING BLAH. The noise is unbearable....so I had to turn it off for awhile.
2. I'm completely fucking fed up with Edward who I'm sure is the stick in the spokes of this whole process. Taking 3 to 4 years after a major tour to release new material is simply inexcusable, and shows that they don't give a damn about the fan base.
3. I'm disappointed in Dave for kowtowing to the VH brothers and their "media blackout", gag order, or whatever the fuck you want to call it......whether real or perceived. I understand why he's going along with it, but it takes a little luster off of the legend to see a once outspoken renegade like Dave tow the company line.
I know all of this has been said before, but I figured I'd pop back in to vent just a little bit.
That said, I'm still excited about hearing the new stuff, buying it, and seeing the tour....but my days of living and dying by it are now well behind me.Originally posted by perilouspete
