Eddie did say his second dream job if he didn't make it in music was to be a race car driver. No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment

To be honest I don't watch NASCAR but I love NASCAR. Why? It keeps some excellent parts suppliers here in the US in business. I doubt you would have Edelbrock or Mallory still in business if there was no NASCAR. Now those businesses are fighting for their lives. How many US jobs does NASCAR provide? I don't have a number but it's got to be huge. No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment

According to the figures that have been posted via Global sales charts, ADKOT has already gone Gold. These figures would be reflective of worldwide sales including U.S., U.K., Japan, etc. They show the following according to their chart archives:
week 1 - 284k
week 2 - 102k
week 3 - 61k
week 4 - 50k
week 5 - 34k
This makes a total of 531k worldwide. I find it strange that there has been no announcement about a certification but then again does Van Halen really care about Gold status? Do they really care about certification at all? It looks to me like RIAA hasn't run their numbers in a while considering 1984 hit diamond status on 2/8/99 and Van Halen I hit diamond status on 8/7/96. I think it is safe to say that both of these records have sold at least a million or two more since 13 and 16 years ago. Another interesting thing is that Best Of Volume I was released on 10/22/96. It was certified Gold and Platinum on the same day - 5/1/97 some 7 months later. It obviously sold 500k months prior to 1M but there was no rush in getting it certified. Something has to trigger the inquiry for certfication to happen such as the label, management company or the artist. My conclusion is that it is just not a big deal anymore at least to Van Halen. Interscope may get involved soon to toot their own horn.RIDE TO LIVE, LIVE TO RIDE

Gold and Platinum status is based on distribution[you can't distribute a digital download and I am uncertain if they count those sales at all, which they should of course...] within differing nation states. In the US it is based on distribution of 500k copies to stores, yadda yadda within all US states and territories, etc.
Each nation has their own differing standard since populations vary from one to the next.
I wonder about digital downloads since the origination source most likely wouldn't vary for different nations, or maybe they would divide it up based on sales to customers in said nation and not where it was sold from? Interesting.Last edited by DLR'sCock; 03-22-2012, 12:05 PM.Comment

They host 17 of the Top 20 Sports team events worldwide. Here's the cost of sponsorship...
$500,000 to $2 million for an Associate sponsor - A logo on either the lower rear quarter panels, the rear deck lid, or one post.
$2 to $5 million for a Major sponsor - A logo prominently displayed on either the rear quarter panels or the rear deck lid, and the uniforms.
$10 to $20 million for a Primary sponsor - Logos on the entire hood and quarter panels, the signage below the quarter panels, most of the two posts, the equipment, the uniforms, as well as the color scheme of the car and team uniforms.
At least Ed gets it...

Yes it is quite obvious that I don't "get it" or have a grasp on NASCAR....look I know it's huge, I just didn't realize the cost at all......oh well....pooh pooh......I don't pay attention to it......I don't care. If one digs it, good for them!
Anyway, the album is number 35 this week not 37.Comment

Dude, I have been thinking seriously about buying a nice turntable and rebuilding a small collection of my favorite albums. I saved my old HUMONGOUS Sony headphones from the 80's because they fucking kick ass. Hmmm...I think turntables are like $125 for a nice one. Maybe a little more.
Plus a Saturday afternoon browsing some shithole record store sounds like fun.“Great losses often bring only a numb shock. To truly plunge a victim into misery, you must overwhelm him with many small sufferings.”Comment

Vinyl is doing well.
I was at a friend's record store (yes, he has one of those) a couple of months back and found this for 4 bucks!
