Not because of the 3 new songs but because this CD will appeal to the casual fan.
This 2 CD set is a definite catalogue killer as it has most if not all of the songs a casual fan knows and loves.
Again this will make tons of money in the long run for Dave and Sammy.
VH's sales have been on a downward trend since 1984.
Best Of Vol 1 has most of these tracks anyway.
Van Halen's "casual" fan base? Problem is, Halen's base is fractured. Too many fans of the classic lineup who won't purchase a Best Of with Halen and Van Hagar tunes together unless there's something new in the way of the classic lineup on it. Would have been smarter to throw even just one live classic track done by the classic lineup on it.
Fans of the band own all tracks on it already except for the three new ones, and they can get those for free.
Finally, even if it does sell a few million, Van Halen sucks without Roth.

At $14.99 this is a cheap one. That's $7.50 per CD and a great value. Best Buy, Circuit City and Target will be moving many units this week. And let me clarify...it will not sell because of the new Sammy songs it will sell because it's loaded with 30 other great tunes that young and old fans remember and love.
So you're a Sammy Hagar fan and you're calling me a dork?
"When was the last time a fan base boycotted a CD?"
Remember VH3. Looks like a few million boycotted that one ya dickhead!
500,000 fans bought that CD.
Here's a couple of CDs that fans did boycott:
Your Filthy Little Mouth
DLR Band
Diamond Dave
Now here's my question: If DLR is the end all and be all of Rock'n'Roll why can't the man sell CDs anymore? Where are his true fans? Anyone with internet access can get these CDs so the excuse can't be that they aren't distributed widely.
Where are all DLR's fans?
I have absolutely no problem in admitting that I prefer Dave with Van Halen over Dave Solo. The fact that Dave sold millions in his Solo career and produced some great solo songs, is fucking great ! But its the Ed-Dave thing where the best stuff comes from..
BABY PANA 2 IS Coming !! All across the land, let the love and beer flow ! Love ya Mary Frances!
If they sell the new Van Hagar CD cheap it will help move a few more units. But there's still no reason for Old School fans to buy it. Not to mention all the negativity that surrounds this new release and tour, which will further impact on sales.
I can't see how this album will do the business.
As for Dave's last two releases, the DLR Band album sold reasnobly well, considering the lack of promotion with no videos and tour to support it. At least it recieved great reviews including an MTV one that called it 'the best Van Halen album since 1984'. Dave's last album was simply a tribute to his musical influences. Something he always wanted to do. It was never meant to be a "commercial" release.
They might be running it on special this week, but after that it will shoot back up to the $22.99+ price tag, and the Best Of Vol 1 will continue to sell better.
One CD greatest hits always sell better than doubles. The Beatles 1 proves it. It's sold 8+ million copies in three years, I believe. The two double CD Beatles packages released in the 70's sold well, but not that well in that short of time period.

I just saw the ad on TV. Was Dave ever in the band? I saw some guy in the background jumping around, but I'm not sure who it was. I never knew that Ed & Mike did all the singing in the old days! What a surprise!
