So who pays for small bands playing to 500 people venues? Do those bands pretty much have to pay for it themselves or what?
Any tour disappointments

Saw Yngwie in 1985 opening for AC/DC on the "Fly On The Wall" tour. Total mismatch. I hated every second of Yngwie's set. It felt like a 40 minute guitar solo. Exhausting and blown out of proportion.I like to pay close attention to the things I'll forget later...Comment

But if you don't like his music and find it boring, he can't do much about that. I also haven't seen him in 85, lots can change in 30 years. In 00's he was fucking great live. And it also adds to the experience if you enjoy the music. The heart is on the left. The blood is red.Comment

At that point I'd only heard some of the Alcatrazz stuff and some of his solo stuff. I went in thinking I'd enjoy it. I left thinking his entire set was, "Hey look at me! I can fit a thousand notes in 30 seconds." Seeing Angus Young's live approach an hour later on the same stage was much more powerful to me.I like to pay close attention to the things I'll forget later...Comment

Great thread here . . . . trouble is the band want to sell more records. The only was to do this is to tour as this maintains your fanbase and generates sales of new records. Tons of bands play 10,000 seaters in the UK, and VH could play 15 shows in european capitals without any bother and sell them out. The uplift of album sales alone would help justify it which stimulates the fanbase. The band know how much they want to play the dates and then it up to a promoter to make it stack up. If the band are unwilling or unrealistic in the money they're after then it's not gonna happen which has been a historical problem with VH since Donington 1984. They set the rough parameters to the promoters, then they have to cut a deal.
I always promised myself that I'd travel to the US for a show if they did a new record with DLR and I'm really glad I did as it was worth every minute of it, but it's so frustrating when the likes of Maiden, Metallica, Pearl Jam, still tour so regularly in the UK in arenas.
Kiss played the tiny Forum in the UK a few weeks ago (after Sonisphere was cancelled) which holds 1800. That night will probably go down in their history as an epic show.
Van Halen just don't know what they're missing. What a fight to get it right, For a minute of delight . . .Comment
