Dave became an inner city medic because he admired his father's selfless work as an eye surgeon treating inmates in the California prison system. Dave just wanted to give back to the community in his own way. From his speech at the Cafe Wha gig last January, it sounds like he also regretted never going to college for a degree and wanted to add that to his bucket list. Bravo to a true Renaissance Man like Sir Diamond Roth!

Dave is not motivated by money. He has always been worth around $50 million even during the leanest times of his music career so he's not hard up for cash like Eddie and Alex have been.
Sure he did, like now he's sword fighting in Tokyo for the money...

LOL As of 2010, Dave had around $40 million in assets. Ed is around $85M and Alex is at $75. After the last tour, no doubt they all have boosted their retirement nest eggs...

What is the source for your numbers?

I'm always dubious about quotes on celebrity net worth because it's only based on public records --- such as tour earnings, stock holdings, real estate valuations, etc. If Dave has $30 million stashed away in a Swiss bank account --- how would anyone know about that unless you're an IRS agent with a federal subpoena?

I don't know, but does it matter that much? $40M is $40M. Yes, he might have some more or might have blown some on dumb investments. But certainly he has more from the last tour alone...

This is a cool pic. Alex looks like he is attemping the fine upstanding citizin pose. Dave looks like he was up to something and got caught.

That picture is 6 or 7 years old already. Time is a jetsrteam alright.

I remember in Dave's book, he talks about how agonizingly long it took to make 1984. It was the first time a record took several months as opposed to a few weeks. Now, I know they didn't dive right into recording ADKOT the moment the '07/'08 tour ended, but still, it came out almost 4 years after the last show. Unfortunately, all this reaffirms is the guy on the right won't slow down and the guy on the left can't help speed things up.

Dave should send Ed an alarm clock that sounds a loop of "don't waste tiiiime!!!" from Sinner's Swing.

Well, let's examine the timeline -

                  2007 reunion and tour
                  2008 tour
2009 EVH sits on his ass
                  2010 make ADKOT
2011 nothing - Dave makes an album with John 5 because he thinks this is going the way of 1996 and 2001. Imagine, we were gonna get another DLR Band album. Later that year, ADKOT comes back into play and will be released. Dave is ecstatic. He is happy that he is gonna tour with VH again.
2012 -tour. Which abruptly stops. And it is see u later Dave. Wolfie finds a new toy to play with and forgets about the constant babysitting he has to do to keep his father from falling apart.
2013 Cracks to foundation. EVH still hiding in his spider-hole. Eventually, Dave leaves. 1985 all over again.
2014 EVH and Wolfie are BS'ing one night and EVH tells Wolfie that he never played with Hagar. VH tours with Hagar.

I could be wrong. It is only a guess.

It seems to me, in hindsight, that Dave is tolerated by EVH, this is not really a band.

I just think they're two completely different people that want two completely different things. They both know the band is at its best when it involves the two of them. We are all just a bunch of junkies that are fiending for them to have the same collective fire and drive they once had thirty some odd years ago. All we can do is just sit tight and hope for the best.

I agree that without Wolfgang getting his dad to accept, this reunion would have never come to pass but there is another reality which after a while one cannot avoid...we often hear how Wolfgang is now the 'leader' of the band and how he even plays a major part in the set list. WHAT THE FUCK? Seriously, being in a band that walks on egg shells because of Edward which is now lead by his kid would be enough to make anyone lose it. I'm shocked Dave has waited this long to finally open up a bit. Let's see...we can have one of the greatest frontmen of all time with a gift for social promotion (and a founding member of the group) decide a legendary group's precious remaining years or a freaking kid. It is freaking hilarious when you contemplate it.
                        I got lost in the...

As I choose the denial regarding this whole VH thing, there is a fantastic japanese brand called Muji, that I just love!!!

I shouldn't contemplate it - but I can't seem to help myself. What I don't get is that EVH had to work at rebuilding his talent. He overcame quite a lot of obstacles medically to achieve this - from his wrist and/or thumb surgery to sobriety to yet another cancer scare on his tongue to his most recent sickness and surgery. He's lucky to be alive, much less playing nearly better than ever. After all that, why fall back onto the sofa and watch Law & Order reruns? His style isn't quite the same, he's a lot more practiced and precise now - not as spontaneously, freakishly awesome in his playing - but why waste that practice time? It had to take years to get as good as he played live 2012 (considering where he was in 2004). All that talent - all that potential. A Maserati indeed.

Most are ASSUMING EVH isn't doing a thing. We don't know wether he is
