You and I don't often agree, E...but I watched the video you posted of "Dance The Night Away"...and I see what you're saying.

I don't know what the fuck Dave is thinking when he reaches up on the vocals...but it's awful.

If he's trying to make it sound "live", then he should think again. I'd rather have it sound just like the record instead of cringing for 4 minutes while he squeals like that.

In fact, when it came to that performance, I would have preferred that they just threw on the record and lip-synced the whole thing....

Other songs I've watched on here were quite good, but DTNA was a real hatchet job.

That was OK...but it was better before the rest of the band kicked in. It's almost like Dave feels compelled to get on top of everything else and it ends up in that horrific, strained shrieking.

I know it's hard to not get excited when Eddie and company go into overdrive, but he's gotta try and control that voice.

They need to reach a point where they say to themselves "OK...we've done our due diligence with satisfying the masses over the last 5 years with the super hits....let's say a big THANKS to the hardcore gang and mix it the fuck up!!"

I agree completely, and yet at the same time, I'm more aware of the fact that I am a greedy bastard when it comes to VH. I remember thinking, "I could die now" after hearing Hear About It Later and Girl Gone Bad live. Now, I just want more. There definitely is a lot more that can be done, so it's always an automatic response to vent when they fall short in any way. Better shows will follow.

I think that they give a fuck...but they looked at this show as a one-off for Australia. Outside of YouTube videos, none of the the Aussies have seen it "live."

So, it was old hat for us, but new to them. We need to keep a little perspective and not go completely off the rails with criticism.

I do agree about Ed's solo, however. We've been hearing that same solo since they were there with Cherone in the 90's....

I could listen to Ed play all day, but that same arrangement has grown a bit tiresome.

With that said, if they start touring in the states again in the future and the show hasn't changed significantly, then we should all come out with guns blazing and rip them all new assholes.
