The problem as I see it

Dave showed when he wants to he can still sing the songs and sing them well. He was really, really good on the Kimmel show. He sang the songs in time, in a natural voice, and threw in a few screams!. The Ellen performance was not as good. Dave seemed to be straying up there, and when he goes high he sounds terrible. While I've not seen as much as most people here, most of the pre kimmel stuff I've seen Dave was not sounding so hot. The strained yelping, spitting out the lyrics in some bizarre way instead of singing the songs in time. Not pleasing to my ears, at least.

Basically, Dave has proven that he CAN still sing the songs and sing them well, but it seems he'd rather piss around with the campy jazz hands and all that crap. I get he's a showman, but with his vocal limitations as they are now I would much rather hear him sing the songs well than twirl some batons and yelp.

To say Dave has done a consistently great job since being back in Van Halen would be flat out wrong. It would also be called being a sheep.

(Look at that fryingdutchman, an opinion )

I thought he was slightly better on Ellen, even though it was Jump...

I don't know if it was down to the song choice or what, but he didn't sounds as good to me. He sounded like he was trying to go higher than he probably should.

          He always does that...

But really it's all pretty bad besides the few screams he pulled off...

Man, I don't know how Dave's going to hold up on this tour with shows every other day. He'll be toast by the end of the first month if not sooner....

One of my favorite moments from the first show in 07 was this incredibly lame couple next to me who obviously won tickets telling me to calm down. Oh the things I said to them!

07 I was beside a couple of young guys. One said he'd seen Van Halen in 04. I told him "no...you didn't, THIS is Van Halen", and they would soon understand what I meant...by the end of the show...they got it.

It's an adult science project indeed. Can he physically pull this off? You're right. This tour has a lot of close dates.

I remember, back in my mid-20s, after doing a Friday night show, the club owner said their opening act for Saturday night's show backed out and could we play. We took it and I remember being winded by the 3rd tune. I was in decent shape and took care of my pipes, too. Granted, in clubs, singers find themselves trying to provide more volume on their own if the sound man sucks, but still, I have no idea how Dave or anyone, especially in their early 60s, is able to duke it out for a tour of close dates. We shall see indeed.

I agree. I feel like if a Sammy fan badmouths Dave, then I'd be like "okay, this guy preferred Van Hagar, Dave bashing comes with the territory." But these fans that begged the return of DLR in 2004, now calling him an embarrassment, saying he should quit.

Fucking hypocrites, ever last motherfucking one of them and they all have zero room to complain.

So, in your mind, it's okay for Dave to just go out and "perform" the songs any fucking way he wants to? It's okay for him to embarrass himself, and the legacy? You'd be totally cool with it if Dave just decided he'd go up and rap the songs, instead of singing them, because he's David Lee Roth and he's back in Van Halen?

You'd probably be happy to hear him sing the Clichegar era songs too.

                      What a dumbass.

We have a lot of nerve calling the Clichegar lovers sheep. We are bigger sheep than they are, if we are willing to accept garbage from Dave.

Dave sings half of the lyrics of certain songs, like Women in Love, where Ed and Wolf sing the actual backing vocals while Dave omits certain parts. There are bits missing here and there, bits you expect him to sing like "I know you're in love" or "Baby make up you mind" which backing vocals are supposed to echo with. There are other occurrences throughout the set. He wrote the lyrics with whatever you want, they sound great and it's too bad he chops them off like that, when he doesn't distort songs by singing way too high.

He is doing better, when not much better than most of singers his age, all right. But the thing is, Ed, Al and Wolf really deliver ultra-solid music, and Dave will tally them on some tunes and alter other ones. Who knows why he embarks on hazardous melodies while his mid-range big voice would perfectly do (and be much easier for him), as it used to?...

What if he were becoming a little deaf?
