With Hagar, all of his recent blatherings come off as little other than a combination of sour grapes that he didn't get to do a final tour with the band where Eddie wasn't too fucked up to play well along with his whole motif for his recent tour - hiring Satriani, publicizing that they would be playing a lot of Van Halen material - which was more of a gimmick to get people to buy tickets who perhaps wouldn't have bothered otherwise.

But, you know, Sammy's the only former member of Van Halen left who is still playing the music live, thus Sammy is the last man standing and therefore he 'won'...

Mildly comical that anybody - myself included - even still cares about the whole Roth vs. Hagar biz enough to either care or comment. It might have sort of made sense to be bothered about it when Eddie was still alive and Van Halen still had a future performing live. Once Eddie passed, Van Halen was over. And, honestly, the band had been dysfunctional for so long that by the time Roth DID manage to rejoin the group in 2006 really the bright spot in all of that was seeing Eddie eventually get himself together enough to play the stuff he had already played twenty/twenty-five years prior in a manner that did justice to all that great CVH material. We never got the CVH reunion we wanted. We got about as good an ending to the band as we could have considering Mike Anthony wasn't a part of it anymore. Eddie got to go out on top and Dave got to end his career fronting Van Halen in front of arena-sized audiences rather than being sandwiched in the middle of the bill at a State Fair/County Expo/Ribfest fronting a solo touring band nobody outside of us diehards knew of or cared about.

So Sam throws Jason Bonham under the bus and after promoting Joe Satriani to the point of saying he is actually better than Eddie, Sam now has changed his tune and says picking Joe was a mistake. Sam the back stabber and he won’t go away. He is such an attention whore he is all over social media pimping himself. This guy is really insecure. If he was secure he would be quietly enjoying his money but no. Sam wants to be the big guy.

Alex has done a few interviews. He said everything past 84 to him is just blah. He said the band and music became something else. It was more like a job. I showed up and played to get paid.

He's not wrong. He also said they did the best they could under the circumstances.

Of course back in 86 Ed and Al were all about selling "Van Hagar", saying the band is now a Porsche and before it was a VW.
I'm sure they knew it at the time that it clearly wasn't the same and in many ways inferior. But they couldn't say that as they needed to sell tickets and albums. So they trashed Dave at every turn.

Well you have to remember Al wasn’t sober yet and they were pissed Dave left them high and dry. They could get asses in the seats and still sell some albums with Sam. He was useful to pay the bills. Sam was the rebound. An ex will always say the new squeeze is better when they get dumped.

The split in 1985 was bad enough. Having Eddie making his "Roth's an asshole'" comments in Rolling Stone mag that year and having that followed up in short order by all four members of Van Hagar slamming Roth...it's like, regardless of the bad feelings Roth leaving left with the Van Halens, they just couldn't take the high road about it.

Would have been easier to have just said that it didn't work out with Dave, Sam's the new singer and we're going to go on and make music. That and changing the band's name would have at least been a way to respect what they had done with Roth. But nope, they took a shit on the guy then went the synth pop route.

Alex ending his book in 1984 and not acknowledging Sam at all has really upset Sam. Now Sam says Alex is blaspheming his brother by not acknowledging the Van Hagar years. Ha! Ha! Sam is losing it and Alex will just continue to ignore Sam. The best way to drive an attention whore nuts is to ignore them.

Ed said Sam was all about the money. Al recently alluded to Hagar as a commercial artist and VH became something different when Sam came on board. He said the original band was real art. They were hungry and desperate to survive. Totally different vibe. Sam is a constant self promoter but that’s what you have to do if you want to have people buy what you are selling. Sam is a salesman and he’s pretty good at it. He is in it for the $$$$$ and that folks is why Sam will never go away. He always has something to sell you.

Dave truly is the crazy artist. Al nailed it when he said 10% of what Roth comes up with is brilliant. 90% is shit.

Someone needs to call out Sam on all his bullshit.

Its probably a waste of time but if someone has the time then please do it. LOL

Call out Sam and tell him Van Hagar was inferior to CVH in every way possible. Musically, visually, tours etc.

Tell Sam that for the OU812 tour they tried to the make the move to playing stadiums but the demand for Van Hagar just wasnt as big as they thought it would be. Which is why they did the Monsters of Rock tour. Contrast that to early 1985, Monk had started to look into booking stadiums for the next CVH tour as the demand during 1984 was so big they could only play so many multiple nights in an arena.

Tell Sam that each subsequent Van Hagar album sold less than the previous album.

Tell Sam that the 2007-08 Roth reunion tour dwarfed the Van Hagar reunion tour in 2004 in terms of earnings.

One could tell Hagar all that truth... won't change his tune. It's not like he'd acknowledge any of that and just admit Roth was the better front man.

Sam just wants us to buy Santo and see the Circle at their Las Vegas residency. The guy is driven. He won’t stop trying to steal Dave’s legacy and inflate his but Sam just won’t stop. He’s the Energizer Bunny. Unfortunately.

Alex reminds me of the old guy who’s experienced it all and no longer has anything to prove. Al did say he did achieve a happy home life and he said Ed never really did. Ed was obsessed with music and was always trying to reach something he just couldn’t grab. Al said he started to value his family more than anything. Music was not the most important thing. I think I get where he’s at. I don’t think he’s out to get Sam or dis him. Al is just being honest because frankly, he has no motive to play the games. Sam plays the ego games. I see no ego in Al. He’s the old man with a story to tell. Sam is just irked to pieces he isn’t part of the story more than a hired replacement who we worked with for a few years.
