At the end of the day, for myself (and many others) Van Halen boiled down to what Roth, Eddie, Alex and Mike did from 1978 to 1984. That's the only lineup of Van Halen that ever meant anything to me.
With Hagar, all of his recent blatherings come off as little other than a combination of sour grapes that he didn't get to do a final tour with the band where Eddie wasn't too fucked up to play well along with his whole motif for his recent tour - hiring Satriani, publicizing that they would be playing a lot of Van Halen material - which was more of a gimmick to get people to buy tickets who perhaps wouldn't have bothered otherwise.
