Other people called it a game of integrity. I do not play it so this is second hand knowledge. But I am told that when you play golf with a person you learn a lot of the true nature of a person.
However, though I am not "into" sports, all sports would be games of integrity. Though when writing that statement including wrestling as it is know today, makes me cringe.

Seeing how we are nitpicking a word and it's use toward the game of golf, here are the definitions:
Integrity as a concept has to do with perceived consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations and outcome. People use integrity as a holistic concept, judging the integrity of systems in terms of those systems' ability to achieve their own goals (if any). A value system's abstraction depth and range of applicable interaction may also function as significant factors in identifying integrity due to their congruence or lack of congruence with empirical observation.[citation needed] A value system may evolve over time while retaining integrity if those who espouse the values account for and resolve inconsistencies.
Some people[1] see integrity as the quality of having a sense of honesty and truthfulness in regard to the motivations for one's actions. Some people[who?] use the term "hypocrisy" in contrast to integrity[citation needed] for asserting that one part of a value system demonstrably conflicts with another, and to demand that the parties holding apparently conflicting values account for the discrepancy or change their beliefs to improve internal consistency (seen as a virtue).
The etymology of the word "integrity" can suggest insight into its use and meaning. It stems from the Latin adjective integer (whole, complete).[2] In this context, integrity may comprise the personal inner sense of "wholeness" deriving from (say) honesty and consistency of character. As such, one may judge that others "have integrity" to the extent that one judges whether they behave according to the values, beliefs and principles they claim to hold.
Integrity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaIntegrity in modern ethics
In a formal study of the term "integrity" and its meaning in modern ethics, law professor Stephen L. Carter sees integrity not only as a refusal to engage in behavior that evades responsibility[citation needed]. He sees it also as an understanding of different modes or styles in which some discourse takes place, and that tries to discover some truth[citation needed].
Carter writes:
Integrity [...] requires three steps: (1) discerning what is right and what is wrong; (2) acting on what you have discerned, even at personal cost; and (3) saying openly that you are acting on your understanding of right from wrong.[...] Integrity [...] is not the same as honesty [...][3]

An adversarial process can have general integrity when both sides demonstrate willingness to share evidence, follow guidelines of debate and accept rulings from an arbitrator in a good-faith effort to arrive at either the truth or a mutually equitable outcome. An honorable presentation of the case measures both sides of the argument with a consistent set of principles. Failure to present principles in accordance with observation or to try them unequally can weaken a case.

I think the point is why would we expect a higher integrity from someone just because they are good at golf?
Anyone that good at anything, even golf, so that they are much better than the 6 billion other people on the planet is likely to be a bit odd in other ways because of the obsessiveness needed to achieve at that level. If they have even average skills in other areas they are doing well.
I guess part of the reason this confuses me as an issue is that I don't buy into the celebrity culture, reading all the magazines and tabloids worrying about who is marrying who and who is happy or rich. People form fantasy relationships with celebrities and start to think they are part of their social circle and form ideas about them based on almost nothing factual.

WTF are you talking about anyway that movie was Guttenburg, Danson and Selleck?
Fom 1990 onwards Charlie Sheen's main role in the movies has been to be a warning that the film was probably garbage.
He's the turkeymeister, the brown M&M of film.

I think he is a scumbag
I will never think of him the same.

But for most it's a good excuse to get outdoors, drink a ton of beer and act like your playing a sport. Integrity.. nah... just a game that goes well with drinkin for the most part except for the top pros... they have to go hide to do what everyday people would do publically.

Charlie Sheen has never been popular, he has merely been tolerated because of television. Don't forget, this is a country that accepted Oliver North on JAG and G. Gordon Liddy on Miami Vice. Shit, Liddy also appeared at Wrestle Mania II. Never underestimate a North American's capabilities for tolerance when it comes to scoundrels. Or outright ignorance, for that matter.
