As defined by most churches and they have the right to define it that way. Even Glenn Beck said let the gays have civil unions and let the church define marriage for their congregations. As long as church's have the freedom to define marrage as they see fit then what's the problem?

The church can define it however they want to, but the state and federal government should recognize all marriages between two consenting adults, and all couples in such partnerships should be afforded the same rights.
