"Dave thought he had reached a point where he was bigger than the band, and Eddie I think was just happy to be able start getting his shitty synthesizer pop tunes released to the public."

No, DAVE saw bigger things for THE BAND. The brothers didn't share his vision. Those drunks can barely speak, let alone ACT.

But yes, lets drop the revisionist history. VAN HALEN was a BAND. The worlds greatest Singer/Frontman & The worlds greatest Guitarist. With a average bass player who sang backup vocals very well, and a above average drummer. All 4 got the spotlight at one time or another. All 4 did interviews (I still laugh when thinking about Mikey putting loose change in his shoes when he finds it on the ground, for good luck!) and all 4 where LOVED by their fans. Funny how THAT has changed!

Ed wouldn't have made it out of his bedroom without Dave, and Ed's mother's insults would have all come true.
I think the old ugly hag actually hated the kid.
And without Dave's in your face attitude we would have never heard of Edward Van Halen.

Come to think of it, I kind of wish i hadn't at this point. it reminds me of just how washed up the toad really is these days.

                    moron that is bret......

has this not been proven ? they made it with sammy. no ?

but the sad ending to that it was never to the level they did with roth. truth!

everyone knows the so called sammy VH reunion was anything but! nobody cared and sales shows it. when and if the roth return to VH happens. you will be so embarrased you ever even posted this thread.

VH would be the biggest selling reunion of all time if they get back together. the only reason it does not happen ? cause eddie does not want to be proven wrong. now STFU and get back to blowing yourself.

I absolutely agree Eddie and Alex would never have found such major mainstream success (and the accompanying longevity) without Roth. But it was an absolutely SYMBIOTIC relationship: Dave found a muse within Eddie's virtuosity.

What Dave did with his hands and feet, Eddie expressed with his hands. It made for an absolutely unique one-two punch.

Yes, Dave was the absolute focal point on the 1984 tour. Ever think maybe that had something with him being gone by the next tour? Dave thought he had reached a point where he was bigger than the band, and Eddie I think was just happy to be able start getting his shitty synthesizer pop tunes released to the public.

As Dave himself said in his book, "is it Mick or Keith? I don't know." with CVH, it was a 97-97 deal.

Eddie was ABSOLUTELY EQUAL to Dave as a focal point in CVH. remember "Eruption"? remember Ed winning best guitarist polls for a million years in a row? remember Ed being considered by lots of girls in my high school to be the cute one in the band?

Now without Dave, VH would've been another Journey or Loverboy (or, at best, an exceptional Def Leppard): a pop band with a hot guitarist and a shitty, embarrassing singer, with a bunch of songs that just age BEYOND THE PALE badly.

Brett has expessed he is primarily an EDDIE fan: well, that's cool. Whatever we all think of Ed as a person, hey, apparently Roth thought high enough of Ed's musicianship to be in a band with him.

and, let's face it, if the band were to reconvene tomorrow, we'd all wet our pants and have a huge group high five.

                      Brett included.
that's the one million dollar post here...take a big 5 from me, as long as I look for the money...

According to Spammy's comments lately...they couldn't make it without him either!

Hell even bassplayer is going to Cabo.

The rats are jumping the ship and all of a sudden that fit Ed threw is making sense. Ed knew Spammy was going to shoot off his mouth, take bassplayer and leave the sisters exposed for what they really are...FRAUDS!

no...I was a dave fan from the first moment I heard the scream from "unchained" and didn't give a shit for who played the guitar for him. I just learned from buying the first album after fair warning that ed was "special" but that was just to make the diamond shine brighter for me...

The fact that Dave kicked ass at a show, didn't mean fans were walking around saying Eddie sucks. That came in 1986.
                          and they were right...

I still think you were in the minority though man. I don't think when most of us heard VH, we said, "Wow that's a great singer, I wonder who the backing band is?" I would bet most (not all) of us said, "What a great fucking band, who are they?"

maybe...for me it was all about dave...maybe because the first time I heard them was when I SAW them on TV and dave was so overpowering in his visuality that I was just blown away and didn't realize that there was a backing band...

I will say this, the first time I saw who Van Halen was, I figured Van Halen was the lead singer's name. The old Bill Gazzarri story. I would think if your first introduction to VH was visual, then yeah I can totally see why Dave would have stood out.
