do not overextend Dave's contribution to VH

Second time post here. Van Halen will always be the brothers band. I'm reading a lot of posts here saying, vh was dave's band. The true backbone of the band will always be eddie and alex. They are the beat and the guitar. Some peaple here think dave wrote all those tunes, he did not. Eddie and alex wrote all the music, dave wrote all the lyrics. That's how it was done. mikey came in and played the bass parts. I know this is a dave alter, but some here go a little to far. Let's get it straight. The mighty VAN HALEN will always be the contributions from all four of those guys. No one besides Led Zepplin could capture the intensity and musical prowess of VH. Bash Sammy, but don't tread on the other three.

I tell you something...I'm a singer and I know poor basic shit about piano or guitar playing. but when I work with my piano man or guitar player and they come up with a melody or riff I always go "good, but give me a little more of a dadadawheeeee here and a litte shiggaahigga there..." they have to translate that in piano or guitar playing but I give them the direction...and that's EXACTLY what dave did...and that makes him BIG part of the music either...

I agree, I won't bash there musicianship. But those 3 just need to pull there heads out of there asses when it comes to choosing a singer. They also need to realize who brought them their success in the first place.

no sir...in the beginning they were a trio playing endless solos (drums and guitar) and ed was singing...if you know how great he does on "how many say I" you know what kind of success he would have reached without dave....who came and gave the whole thing the right direction...you can't overextend that, because without dave steering the ship it would have had sinked before leaving the harbour...

For the millionth time.......Without Dave VH would of had some success, but wouldnt have been the phenomenon they became. Many great guitarists have toiled away in mediocrity for their entire careers, so don't say "Without a doubt, VH would've ruled cuz of EVH". Dave promoted the band to no end, came up with all the concepts(musical direction, videos, staging, promotion) He was IN CHARGE. Why do you think Ed was so frustrated during the Fair Warning era? Because Dave wouldnt let him dominate an album with fucking keyboards and synths. 5150 was a huge seller thanks to the mega success the band already enjoyed. Had the band,with Sammy, tried to compete with the Dave era, it wouldve died quickly after 5150. Instead they went to cheese ballads, and Bon Jovi style "rockers". Edward is without a doubt a legend, but David Lee Roth was the architect of that once great band.

No i'm not a cocktard. It is just so obvious that Dave without the other three is just flat music and vh without dave is the same. I'm not here bashing dave, i'm just telling how it is. I am not saying dave wasn't the quarterback of the band, but he didn't write the music only the lyrics. What made vh great was there live performance not the mtv videoes. That was all four of them. The album covers and all the other bullshit didn't matter either. It was and will always be the live performance. Before people here start calling others cock and other childish shit, remember that it was vh first and not solo dave. The bands four members made vh what they were, not just one individual.
